Tangled (a Rapunzel movie)

Disney's released their fiftieth canonical theatrical animated feature...called 'Tangled'.

    Person: "What's 'Tangled' about?"
    Disney: "It's about 'Rapunzel'."
Person: "Why isn't it called 'Rapunzel'?"
    Disney: "..."

You can search their answer if you want, but that's not the point of my post.

Having researched the film and watched the various trailers and TV spots, I do not expect the new movie to be up there with the Disney 'Renaissance' flicks.

I would, however, like to take this opportunity to recommend another movie about Rapunzel.

That purple dragon sidekick is straight out of Spyro. :pac:

It's called Rapunzel in France (or at the least the local name for the character - Raiponce (which is also a purple-blue flower). Also 'Rapunzel' in Singapore and "Rapunzel - Newly Styled" (or something) in German.

    Madness.

Some poor kid is going to go this film only to be bored out of his tree by all the singing. If they want to attract boys to Disney films, they need to drop the musical numbers, especially those like in Tangled (none of them are funny, they all sound like Mandy Moores regular pop music).

Zachary Levi from Chuck is also lending his voice to a character

Saw this at preview in Vue this morning. It's excellent. Although I think it would have been just as enjoyable in 2D, the 3D element added a nice little touch.

Thought it was a real return to form for Disney & it was better than Princess & The Frog. You probably don't *need* to drag a kid along to see this, but why not treat one anyway.

If you enjoyed Tangled, you'll probably like this. It's a very funny short Irish film about Rapunzel:

    Enjoy!

Saw Tangled tonight. Really brilliant film. Pure Disney fairytale magic and some really incredible animation. As an animator myself, I was insanely jealous of how great the film looks. Two thumbs way, way up.

The punch line is at the end. The film board funded that. Now THAT is funny.

A lot of those virtual cinema shorts are like really weak comedy sketches. The Film Board sub-contracted out the picking of them to Wild Wave I think, although they took it back since so maybe they weren't happy with the standard of films getting picked.
