Used the passive Royer on a choir two years ago, wonderful rich sound, no eq, captured the venue's acoustic very well.

I think Paul was asking about stereo ribbon mics, as opposed to a pair of stereo ribbon mics? Used to use a spaced pair of 4038 quite a lot on drums, fantastic sound, wish I owned even one. Best thing ever for tambourine.

    Yes - specifically stereo mics.

I see Coles now make a stereo ribbon - with a nifty setup where the two tops are stuck together magnetically allowing axes adjustment.

    Coles aren't terribly expensive either.

And do we know a man who fixes said Coles 4038's per chance?

'Fixing Coles' invariably means replacing the Ribbon.

They're only a tiny company in the UK so best go direct.

    nicey

I've used a Ribbon on choirs and ambience as a mid-side affair.

A DPA in the mid and a Blue Woodpecker at the sides, worth a try.

IME it's actually quite difficult to break them in normal use. Apparently Albini likes them on guitar cabs, so he owns twice as many Coles as he actually uses. Half are always being re ribboned.
