    Hey guys and girls,

Now I know this has probably been asked before, so I apologize in advance, but if I were interested in purchasing an SLR/FAL which would be the best buy?
I've noticed a few floating round the market, but know little or nothing about the difference, say, between a KA L1A1, or a star or ares one, or any of the FALs. So my real question is are they any good, externally and internally?
Which do people out there prefer and why?

I've been drinking so forgive any ramblings or spelling mistakes. Most people here already know I've got a hard on
for all things FAL or L1A1. Someday I hope to collect all
    models available in airsoft.

My friend my friend anyone that would like to buy an L1-A1 or FAL gets a big thumbs up from me.

The ultimate would be to get a Gas Blowback FAL or L1A1
but they dont make them..............yet. (fingers crossed)

I LOVE absoultly LOVE the FAL's and L1A1 types of guns.
In the real steel its not overly impressive when it comes
to accuracy but all the same I love it.

What you buy depends on what you want out of the gun.

Do you want it to look like an Irish Army issued FAL
Do you want it to look like a Brittish issue L1A1
Whats more important Cosmetic/Looks or Skirmishability
Would you happy with a hybrid of the two getting a modern looking thing.

If you want an L1A1 for pure "Looks" then the Star/Ares Brand of L1A1 has the best cosmetic finish on it.
Unfortuantly the inside is not as reliable as other guns.

If you want an L1A1 thats both Functional for playing airsoft and one that Looks well,
and that has electric blow back then you will be wanting to purchase the King Arms L1A1.

If you want something that has awesome skirmishing capeability and that also
looks more like a FAL than an L1A1 then the King Arms FAL may be for you.
but the plastic stock and handgrip are absoulte crap looking.
The internals are great but the externals are only ok.

If you want something that looks similar to a FAL or L1A1 with a more modern look
then the Classic Army SA-58 series may be for you.
DS Arms are a company that currently still manufacture FALS/L1A1's type guns in the
real steel world for Militery and Civilian market so there
are some airsoft versions of these guns too.

King Arms Brand have Long L1A1's, FAL's, Carbines,
    Folding stock versions.

    Star/Ares Brand have the L1A1

Classic Army, have an SA58 Carbine, SA58, and the SA58 OSW version. (SA58 OSW having a foldable stock and rails on the front handgrip)

From an Airsoft point the Magazines you Purchase from the
different brands are incompatible with each other.
The star/ares/ka/ca brands are are all different and wont
will only work with their exsisting models of guns and are not cross compatible. (also to make matters worse the King Arms L1A1 and FAL mags are not compatible with each other even though they come from the same manufacture)

Lastly before I get too drunk to type.....if you want extras
like Real Handguards both ABS and Wood, and scopes and rails etc. These are RARE and HARD to get so keep an eye on ebay constantly and they run expensive. The Real steel Handguard from a FAL fits onto the airsoft verstion but the screws/pins will not line up so you cant fix it to the airsoft gun unless you are willing to modify the gun to force things to fit.

Sorry if I've rambled or have not made any sense
here is a pic of what I've got and I'm currently waiting on
another version from one of the Irish retailers to add to the collection:

Well Bullets. Thanks for the reply.

Ramble away, I like te hear peoples opinions in relation to this sort of thing. Get a general feel for things, the more info the better.

They really are lovely guns. A cryin' shame they're so under appreciated. Always had a soft spot for the classics, but Belgian guns in particular. Anything with 'FN' written on it usually gets my attention. It'd be really nice te see a few teams kitted out with them and the like.

Now, I'm not a moneyed individual. I can be lumped in with the stereotypical impoverished student. However, I my soon have enough money to get meself a decent AEG, so I figured I might try to acquire one I like, a sort of long-term investment plan.

I've held the Star L1A1 before, way back when in Noel's shop in Newbridge, and it certainly looked the business. In fact, I fell in love with it and the FAL range there and then. But, as i've said, this gun needs to be a long-term investment, so I'd be willing to forgo looks for functionality. But only so much look. biggrin.gif

Also, I'd be more inclined to look at the FAL carbine, mainly on account of my height. While I'm not 'short', the L1A1 was almost as tall as I was! And while I'm ok with that, its just a bit more awkward gettin' about.

Which makes me wonder, what are the folding stock FALs like? I'm mainly concerned more with battery space here? I'd hate te ruin the look of the gun with a big block of a battery duct-taped to the side.

SA58 a lovely gun, but WELL out of my price range.

Thanks again for the imput. Any more feedback appreciated!

I dont really skirmish so cant tell if these type of guns
are good or not from a play end of things.

The KA rate of fire on their FAL's is impressive.
The L1A1's are very long to go running about forests with (in my opinion) The few times I've used them in a skirmish after a while I felt like switching to something shorter.

Uncompany.com used to stock a folding stock tactical carbine which I would have loved but have not seen it instock for at least a year anyplace.

Getting a retailer to actually be able to source one may be
an issue though, not sure if any shop has them in stock.

I really like the sa58, however there is the issue of price for me (they're about $500 dollars, aren't they?).

Yeah, that'd be the ideal one for me bullets. That said, any idea what the battery capacity on this thing would be like? I mean, the front grip on the FAL can't exactly be described as 'Roomy'. As an airsofter I only really play in the Quarry and Oakridge, so while an L1A1 might be a bit lengthy for certain sections of the sites (the Gorse and the Ridge respectively are what spring to mind), I imagine it would only be a matter of getting used to.

Anyway, this is more of a potential future buy as opposed to an immediate concern, just feel like using something a little different with a classic style.

Thanks again for the imput guys. Much appreciated!
