Just got a new phillips HDTV, with MPEG4 tuner (as stated on the box).

Connected up my outdoor aerial with coax, and when I go to setup and "Find Digital Channels", i must input a MHz number. Any idea what this could be? There's no scan feature unfortunately, only for Analogue channels.

    In Cork City area.

Maybe 666? Check this page for full list of transmitters, channels, and channel to frequency conversion: http://www.mpeg4ireland.com/dtt-muxes

I should mention, only the P1 numbers on that list are active at the moment.

Balls, the one that's closest to me (Collins Barracks) has all "?'s" after it. Doh!

Will give 666 a try and revert back.

666 from Spur Hill works for me near city centre.

Might be able to pick up Mullaghanish as well (474MHz)

Only getting sound, no picture! :(

Do I select DVB-T or DVB-C when tuning?

    DVB-T

Sound and no Picture usually means an obsolete TV "Dumped" on Irish Market, or else it's more than a couple of years old.

If you bought it less than two years ago the shop *might* be obliged to refund you. Purchaser at Aldi got refund on TV over 1 year old.

    What brand/model tv is it?

    Phillips 5000 Series

    42PFL5405H/05

The guy in the store told me it was MPEG4 compatible and it says it on the box. Bought it yesterday!

Also found this in the PDF online manual after I registered the product on Philips.co.uk:
    Reception
     Antenna input: 75ohm coaxial (IEC75)
 TV system: DVB COFDM 2K/8K
 Video playback: NTSC, PAL, SECAM
     Digital TV: MPEG-4, DVB-T
    (Terrestrial), DVB-C (Cable), DVB-S
(Satellite - on certain models only),
    MHP (Multimedia Home Platform -
    only available in Italy).
 Tuner bands: VHF, UHF, S-Channel,
    Hyperband

    Success!

    Firmware upgrade fixed the issue.

Now, to watch RTE News 24 :P

Edit: picture a bit jittery. Most likely because Collins Barracks hasn't installed its DTT service yet and I'm picking up the more distant Spur Hill one?

    Glad you got it sorted.

Where did you get the updated firmware? A friend of mine has a fairly new Philips LCD, no luck tuning in DTT, not even audio, yet the remote has buttons for EPG etc. Don't know the model no. offhand, but I'd like to try and get it set up for him.

I registered the product on Philips.co.uk using the model number. Then it gave me a dedicated page with Support/Drivers etc. Zip file download for the driver, onto USB stick which I inserted into the TV and that was it.

Will try adjusting the aerial to see if I can get a good signal. Its pretty good, starts stuttering every 5mins or so.

Edit: After a slight adjustment, everything now perfect :)

Did it still need the frequency with the new firmware or did it then auto scan till it found the channels itself?? what is the precise model ??

Auto Scan. Picked up all the channels twice (from two different frequencies).

What are the two frequencies? Some transmitters are intermittently testing on a second frequency with duplicate channels, for possible future second mux maybe.

Not sure what the two frequencies are, just used a scan feature as mentioned by an earlier poster.
