    Hello,
I recently bought a 02 VW golf and the Alternator/power-steering belt shred on me yesterday, so I got it towed to the shop and they will call me with a quote on Monday. So how much should I expect to pay for this service?
All help would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance guys, I've had a crap week and just don't need a nasty surprise on Monday!

I would say no more than 50 Euro. The belt would cost, say 30 and the labour is a 10 min. taks.

    Really?
    I was expecting say 150-200
    That's great,
Now I'll see what the VW service centre says on Monday!

    Thanks!

it will be at least 200e if you go to VW

take it to your local gargae will be much cheaper and they will probly do a better job of it

forgot to mention, had the same job on a crylser voyager, 80euros all in all

200 for a belt? I am a bit confused now... Did you get this done before? I never used a garage to service my car, but I replaced the belts in my cars last weekend and I paid about 40-50 Euro for 3 belts and I fitted them myself. It would take no more than 10-15 minutes to get done each one.

I just have no idea of the cost.
I saw crazy quotes for timing belts, which require alot of work I guess.
So since I can see this belt a figured it would be cheaper but still a chunk of cash!

Well, a timing belt and an alternator belt is a very different thing, so for that reason you should be on the safe side. In fairness, an alternator belt is an easy, quick DIY job and requires very basic skills.

I'll keep that in mind if it comes up again, I just got the car, so I think I'll let the pro's at it this time, get it serviced etc... and research before I call them next time.
Thanks though, I really had no barometer to judge what I should expect to pay,
Now I can at least know what to expect.

i replaced one on my mondeo a few weeks go, belt cost 10 euro. took less than 5 mins to replace

So I got the car back, 27.88 for the Belt
I also got the barrel lock on the boot replaced 51.63 for the part

And a total of 118.95 for the labour. which I think is steep.

Anyway it's fixed now, but at what price..........
