The Woodcock are here in good numbers. Put up a couple of dozen plus today and shot 8, all out of heavy cover.

Seeing more and more here too - numbers will increase further as the bitter weather from the East tightens its grip:)

We had our first woodcock two weeks ago in Tyrone, only flushed three though. Went to the same spot and flushed eight last weekend. Should be plenty this weekend but I won't get home to find out. :( Next weekend, they will get my full attention! :D

Was beating for a friend of mine west of Ballinasloe on Thursday. He had a group of 6 French over for 3 days woodcock shooting. First cover showed a few but after that they were hard found.

Total bag was 7 woodcock, 2 teal and a pigeon. Should've had 2 myself except I was walking along with gun broken and empty ( rather not shoot a bird than shoot someone else )

Arrived there at first light to go for a quick stalk beforehand, got nice pricket which i dressed and hung out of a tree before going beating. When we stopped for lunch one of the french ladies went into the wood for a call of nature followed by a shrill scream and ran back out again !! She'd squatted down only to look up and find a fallow carcass hanging out of a tree looking right at her :D

Apologies for the pic, taken on my phone
