Hi

Im not sure if this is the right place to put this, if not mods, pls free to close or move this thread, thanks

Ok folks Im not looking for legal advice or anything, just looking for ppls opinion on the situation I find myself in and what choices I have if any!

I found a phone I was looking for a on site which is very well known! This site is no way linked to boards, Id like to stress that point firstly.

The phone was priced at 430euros, which was about right for a 2nd hand phone of this model so it wasnt a "too good to be true" type of deal!

I txt the seller asking was it still available etc after a few txts we agreed on a price of 380euros. There was one issue though, Im in Dublin, hes down the country, so he suggested he would post it, which was fair enough! So I suggested Id pay by paypal! He said had not got paypal but could do a bank transfer! I never did one so I thought id have a think about it!

After having a think about it I decdied I'd go ahead and ring him to see what he was like, he seemed a nice chap and thought Id go ahead with it all! He sent me on his bank account details, it was an irish bank so it put my mind at ease a bit more and I went ahead and made the transfer. It said it would take 3 working days to process, this was Tuesday evening.

Wednesday & Thursday we excanged txts and calls to see if the money went through, it hadnt. I rang my bank and they told me it left my account but it wasnt transferred to the other account yet!

Today I txt him several times and tried ringing him, I got no reply, which I thought was weird but after several hours he did and replied "I posted that out" now, how could he if I didnt give him my address yet? The whole thing is now starting to feel like a comtplete con! I rang my bank just there and told me, the money has left my account, I asked about cancelling it and they said I cant, theres nothing I can?!

So now I dunn where to go or what to do! I havent got money to be throwing away as It took me forever to save it up in the first place as Im a student!

Is this a con? what do u guys think about it? Should I leave it til next week and see what happens?

    thanks!

If you don't receive it report it to the Gardaí. Keep your texts. And learn a valuable lesson.

Doesn't matter what bank it is, you could contact them all you want, but data protection act prevents them from releasing any details about the account. You need to go the Garda route on it.

You gave someone money for something, yet you never even told him your address?

Report to Gaurds. Keep the texts/communication as evidence. I wouldn't do a bank transfer as a means for paying for something in the future unless you meet the seller/see the item face to face first.

Hi op, you could ask a mod to move this to consumer issues??

Think I've seen this type of query over there before and they were holpful with it (but do NOT get your hopes up - IMO this sounds like a con job :()
