Nope, American discs are Region 1 whereas Europe is Region 2. The only way you'd get them to play is if you can "region hack" your Blu-Ray player so that it's region free (i.e. plays all discs). Depending on the model there may be some codes on the net which could do this

Not to dismiss what you're saying Satchman, but my understanding is that there are Blu-ray's available which are region free despite the fact that they say they are region 1 or 2 etc. Just look at the information given at Axl Music.
As with traditional DVDs, Blu-ray Discs can sometimes be region locked. There are three regions, and in order to play region locked Blu-ray movies, you need a player that is compatible with that particular region, or a Blu-ray player that plays any region. You can read more about region codes here.

Many Blu-ray Discs are, however, region free. A number of studios choose to release Blu-rays that are not region locked. Those discs can be played on any player regardless of the origin of the discs. Those titles are marked as "Region ALL" on the product page and are region free regardless of what is stated on the back cover. Here is how to confirm whether a title is region free.

You can find a complete list of our region free Blu-ray here.

This site is a useful tool for determining if a Blu-ray is Region-Free: http://bluray.liesinc.net/

    Oh, and..

    [pedant]

    .. it's Region A, B (etc) for Blu-ray.. not Region 1, 2! ;)

    [/pedant]

    .. sorry, couldn't resist!

Don't worry about it... I say Region 1, 2 for Blu-rays myself, but I was in a pedantic mood! :D

A lot of the releases in the US are coming out on region free blu ray, so it can be a handy way to get older films that have not been released in Europe on blu ray at all yet.
