But you could say the same about Bowe, Fitzgearld, Murphy and Trimble.

i just want to see him out there, could he fit in beside drico at 12? or put him at 15. in fairness kearney has done damn all in ages.

Don't think he's fully fit tbh, he's still working his way back to match fitness and might struggle to last a full 80 at Int level.

Move Drico to 12 and play Earls at 13.

He is only back from an injury.

well ya but he played the full australia/munster game and a bit last weekend. he could have been selected from the start this weekend, murphy is fine but hes not the future.

Deccie clearly rates Trimble ahead of Earls.

Not quite as strange as his fascination with MickOD, but up there.

Not that I mind Trimble getting a run. Personally I would have given BOD the day off this weekend. I don't see what we gain by playing him. Although I'd put Bowe at 13 rather than Earls, and stick Earls on the wing.

BOD is not a 12, there is a huge difference between 12 and 13

Earls has had an injury disrupted season and this hasnt helped.

In theseason that Darcy was voted player of the 6Ns did BOD not play 12 and he at 13?

That's an interesting one because that set up really worked for us (2004 I think) but was abandoned without much explanation.

Earls isn't a 15 as suggested above as he's a bit of a nervy catcher of a ball.

Don't think that's true, Earls played the 6N last year ahead of Trimble.

Earls would have got two starts this series if it were up to me.

Earls should have definitely gotten a bit more game time but his selection (or lack of) is far from the most worrying and shortsighted made by Kidney during the Autumn Internationals.

agree with the fella who said BOD shoudln't be playing this weekend. He's moving on and plays alot of rugby in the year. why play him in a meaningless game, give earls a chance or someone?

Right now the future goes as far as sept/oct next year. Its all about the RWC

Not really. We have loads of depth in the back 3. Prop and openside have been the worst by far.

Sorry did you read my post? I said that though the Earls decision was poor "its far from" the worse decision he has made during the AI's. As was said selection decisions at Prop, Second Row and Back Row were much worse.

em no.. when was the last time someone played 13 other than drico for ireland for more than a few mins??... that is a pit fall in itself.

McGurk mentioned before the france game on rte there that Earls' lack of gametime is because Munster are insisting that he plays in the centre?

I doubt Munster would be dictating to Ireland as to where they play Earls tbh. But I do think he's going to be playing 13 for Munster from here on in.

Earls said himself (I'm not looking for a link) that his days at fullback are over and he wanted to play centre. For me he is probably BOD's natural successor but it really is not unusual for guys to start their international career on the wing, Mortlock and JdV are two examples. He should have had starts in this series, I am positive he's going to go on and win 60,70,80 caps, and the fact he hasn't been used reflects poorly on the management.

Earls' position for Ireland will be 14 imo, and Bowe will take the 13 jersey in life after BO'D.

I've made no secret of how critical I have been of Kidneys selections for these AI's and how wastefull he's been with the oppertunity to experiment, and not in a mad scientist way, in a logical way, with giving different players game time and trying combinations with different players to have a greater pool of tested players to pick from.

In terms of quality though, I'm surprised Trimble is starting ahead of Earls. I'm not sure Trimble is an international class winger, and at least Earls has a good attacking threat.

No you couldn't. Bowe??? He's bascially a regular at this stage. Trimble, Fitz and Murphy have all started at least one game.

Remember that one for future refence when Keith Earls' try count for ireland is being compared to Fitzgerald's, it should now read 7 tries not 6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Let's be honest here. Earls didn't get the try because he's from Munster, we all know it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 383 ✭✭fullback4glin

No no no, he didn't get the try cos he's from Moyross, kid.
