Nice piece in the UK Times today about an interview with Christopher. Taken from a Newsnight interview with Jeremy Paxman. Check out newsnight on the 29th at 2230hrs.

Apparently he has only a 5% chance of being around in 5 years.

Yeah, apparently he's pretty much screwed. :(

I was shocked to learn how old he is recently; he looks/looked like he's in his 40s.

Afraid his life style has caught up with him, a lot of smoking and alcohol. Still he would probably say he enjoyed his life more than most.

Aye. For someone who smokes like a chimney, he looks great for his age.

Have a look at the BBC website: it's on at the earlier time of 19:30 on Monday. I know it says "England, Scotland and Wales only", but the online TV Guide I use is set to "N. Ireland Digital" (which is always correct for me on NTL) and has it at the same time.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Stupid Times. Not sure what is going on there. 2230hrs is generally about the time Newsnight is on, this must be a special.

Not to mention the drink! I watch BIll Maher's show, and all the guests always have cups of water, but one of the times Hitchens was on he just had a large glass of brandy or something...I'm also pretty sure he's done some of his debates/interviews sloshed.

I'm pretty sure he does most of his debates and interviews sloshed.

Edit: Actually, here he is describing his daily imbibement:
At about half past midday, a decent slug of Mr. Walker's amber restorative, cut with Perrier water (an ideal delivery system) and no ice. At luncheon, perhaps half a bottle of red wine: not always more but never less. Then back to the desk, and ready to repeat the treatment at the evening meal. No "after dinner drinks"—most especially nothing sweet and never, ever any brandy. "Nightcaps" depend on how well the day went, but always the mixture as before. No mixing: no messing around with a gin here and a vodka there.
