    Hi

I am in my mid 30's and Dr. told me I have adult acne. its on my face and body. I have had it for about a year and thought it would clear by itself. I am on a low dose of antibiotics and a cream for it. now that it is clearing the acne I am left with red patchy scarring, is there any treatment for this scarring? its bad enough having acne but scarring from it is just as bad. it has really affected my self confidence.

If your a lady and I presume you are by your name:) but correct me if I am wrong, a common cause of adult acne can be polycistic ovary syndrome. Bio oil is very good for new scaring nice and gentle on skin too.

yep last time I checked I was a lady:) I don't have polycistic ovary syndrome. but i'd say it is hormonal, but because of my age dr. is not putting me on the pill. i'll give bio-oil a shot. anything worth a try at this stage.

I've got adult acne as well, and have tried all kinds of treatments, nothings worked! but recently i went to my GP and she started my on Trimethoprim 300mg - it's actually an antibiotic used for urinary tract infections, but the dosage of 300mg is significantly higher than the dose used for infections. I've been on it for a month and it's fantastic! it's not expensive either! it's not licensed in Ireland for those doses, but off license, a few GPs will prescribe it, if u want more info PM me!:D

I'd check with your doctor before using bio oil. It is really effective for some scarring, but acne is caused by excess sebum, which is essentially oil, so putting oil on your skin could seriously affect your treatment. No point getting rid of the scars if it gives you more spots! I asked my GP about bio oil when she put me on acne treatment and she said I shouldn't even be using oil based moisturisers, nevermind putting oil on my face.

Doctor can give you loads of options for creams and ointments. Just a matter of finding the right one for your skin type. Same goes for the selection of over the counter face wash and scrubs you can buy in pharmacy :)

As for supplements, I have found Zinc & Fish Oils to be praticualry effective for my own acne, as well as drinking lots of water. There are debates ongoing about the effectiveness of diet and its connection to acne but its definitely worth researching and trying a few things out.

    Best of luck

Because of your age he won't put you on the pill? But you're only mid 30's? I found Dianette amazing for my skin.

To get rid of scarring acid peels are supposed to be brililant. I'm tempted but I can't afford the treatments at the moment. They're quite expensive.
