Using taxsaver commuter ticket to buy Intercity ticket

Hi, I have a taxsaver Dublin Short Hop Zone annual rail ticket. I am booking a return journey online from Dublin to Tralee for this weekend and one of the options is to select Taxsaver (which gives me a 20 euro discount on my fare). I haven't seen this before but is my Dublin commuter taxsaver annual pass eligible to avail of this discount for the intercity fare? It says that you must produce your taxsaver ticket when your ticket is being checked (I assume this is my Rail Smart Card short hop zone ticket??). It doesn't actually reference taxsaver on this ticket so unsure if this is valid. I don't want to end up with a fine.

I tried contacting IR but no-one is answering. What taxsaver ticket are they referring to?

    Any assistance appreciated!

Any Dublin Bus, Irish Rail or Bus Eireann ticket issued on the taxsaver scheme is valid. Any ticket which is part-issued by one of those companies is also fine so Luas + DB is fine. Mine doesn't have TaxSaver printed on it but I've used it twice and they were happy with it so I guess they don't care.

    Thanks Markpb!!

I since got through to IR on the phone and they confirmed same ! I don't recall seeing this feature the last time I booked intercity online so have probably missed out on savings previously but this is good to know now going forward!!:)

I cant understant why so many people say the same about contacting Irish Rail, "lights are on but nobody's home". They seem unable to answer basic customer queries over the phone as they cant be directly contacted at most times.

Also surely this small perk if advertised a little would help them out of the abyss they are in?

Its only there in the last few months.

Note. Some of the webfare may be cheaper than the student, Taxsaver, etc. fares

ah, hadn't booked one in about 6 months so that's why I hadn't seen it before. That's a good tip on the discount off peak fairs being sometimes cheaper than availing of taxsaver discount though. I've gotten offpeak return journeys to Tralee from as cheap as 20 euro (10 each way) but tonight's fare would have cost me 72.50 as I had no option but to get the peak service today and Sunday so that 20 euro discount is welcome!

Oh, note that the terms and conditions are also different. The web fares are tied to a specific train (you can travel on a different train on the same day, but a surcharge may be payable).
