    Try Rep 123.

With ebuyer I always use the google checkout option as their own system seems unnecessarily convoluted.

Yes that's it. I ordered it on a Fri and it was delivered to Kilkenny on Wednesday morning.

I'm impressed with it for the price and my BBC/ITV HD channels display brilliantly.
Also watched some live rugby on it over the weekend and the action suffered no lag or lack of clarity.

My only reservation is I had to manually adjust the audio to get levels I was happy with but apart from that for the price it's a deal i'm well satisfied with.

I'd doubt it can handle DIVX etc., haven't tried it but I think USB may be for service.

    Just tried usb...nada.

On the plus side there's a 3rd HDMI on the side which ebuyer spec doesn't mention

Just wondering, for the extra few quid would this be a good full HD alternative? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/248683

That'd be just sub €300, so I imagine it'd be difficult to find a 32" 1080p with HDMI and MPEG4 for RTE/TV3 Digital at that price.

May also be worth trying Tesco to see if they've offers on Toshiba.

If you can, hold off 'til January, that ebuyer TV will still be there and there may be some attractive offers from Irish retailers / e-tailers.

Not in a panic at all, i noticed some time ago that when the sky engineer was installing the HD Box he left 2 scratches on my tv, was thinking of replacing it, saw that, thought it was worth the >300. Seems to be a slightly better set than the previous AOC one too.

    Hi,

Just to be clear on the 32" AOC (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/247844) discussed in this thread...

As far as I know, a TV that doen't have a Soarview certified receiver built in will also pick up Saorview channels (as long as I could previously get TV3) if it is a "Freeview HD" TV i.e. has a "Freeview HD" receiver built-in. Also, Saorview is encoded using MPEG-4 and consequently requires a built in MPEG-4 decoder in my TV (or else a set-top box, which I want to avoid).

This AOC TV isn't "Freeview HD" but is "MPEG 4"... so I'm confused - will this TV be able to decode / receive Irish digital out of the box?

As is obvious from the above, I'm on the lookout for a good-value 32" Irish digital (Saorview) capable TV (i.e. with appropriate receiver built-in) at the moment so would welcome any other suggestions also... :)

    Thanks,
    super_freddie.

So it will pick up Saorview?

Any idea why it isn't advertised as Freeview HD?

I thought that MPEG4 decoder + Full HD + Freeview = Freeview HD in the UK?

No doubt somebody can easily point out my ignorance :)

    Thanks,
    super_freddie.

    Yes, it will.

DVB-T with Mpeg 4 is the spec necessary for Saorview in Ireland.

UK Freeview HD works with DVB-T2 and Mpeg 4 and as this TV is only DVB-T it would not be advertised as 'Freeview HD'.

Also, this TV is not Full HD as you said above, it's HD Ready.

On XE.com I see the price is around 275 euros. Does anyone know if the free delivery applies to ireland?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,019 ✭✭✭Badgermonkey

Delivery is £15 by DHL at the Irish end.

What swung me on this TV (apart from price) was 3yr warranty, though I think that may be mandatory under EU law.

If you're considering any purchase on ebuyer site I'd recommend the Google checkout option as ebuyers own system is a bit of a pain.

I bought one of these, I must say I am very impressed with it, it is very easy to set up.

    I have a few questions.....
I currently can receive Rte1 Rte2 TnaG TV3 and 3e, along with a lot of music stations. I have 2 antennas on the roof. I was told that I should be able to pick up BBC etc. Does anyone know what else I need to do to receive these channels?
    Thanks in advance.

ballyharpat, it'll depend on your location and your antenna set-up whether you can access spillover from UK signal.

You should post your question (including details of aerial type, location etc) over for the guys on the terrestrial tv thread, some great assistance available for digital TV there.

I think im going to buy one of these.
What do i need to pick up saorview?
Just a satellite dish pointed at the Sky 28.2 and an MPEG4 receiver, which is built into this tv?
Sorry for the basic question - an answer wasnt easily forthcoming on google...
    Thanks Guys

Wonder will i have the Tv before Xmas?

I got one of these last week but it did not work at all - no power. Still waiting for it to be collected and my money refunded. Have to say I am not impressed with Ebuyers customer service, have rung them 3 times and have been on hold for at least half an hour each time. Also the courier did not come to collect it on agreed day, they said that they could not find REP123 which is the address code they tell you to use if you are in Ireland.

Saorview is terrestrial tv not satellite. Depending on your location you will need either a roof aerial, an attic aerial or a set top aerial.

As badgermonkey says you'll need a separate dish for Saorsat and as far as I know the satellite that will be broadcasting it has not even been launched yet.
If you can currently get RTE and TV3 analogue through a set top aerial, you will be able to get Saorview. Speculate €2 in a €2 shop and try it with your current tv.

walker seem to be the only brand approved by rte for the saorview digital transmission but any with an mpeg4 tuner built in should be ok too

That's not strictly true, It has to be mpeg4 Level4 for HD broadcasts. There are some STB and TV with mpeg4 that can only handle mpeg4 level3 SD broadcasts. RTE2 is currently being broadcast in HD resoulution and many users who bought mpeg4 SD TV/STB can not receive it - http://www.saortv.info/terrestrial-saorview/the-black-list/

There is also the now notorious Panasonic G10B range with a MPEG4 HD tuner which is technically capable of receiving both Freesat and Saorview but Panasonic used a poor firmware which stopped these TV's from receiving Saorview as soon as RTENL switch on the correct identification flags within the broadcast signal. Panasonic refuses to release an easy fix firmware update for these TV's claiming that the TV where only intended for the UK and not Ireland - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056081158.

Saorview Certified STB/TV's will always work, currently there is only Walker but I believe Samsung will be joining them.

FreeviewHD STB/TV's will most likely work 100% but you may need to set the county setting to UK, this could have some unknown affects further down the road. (***NOTE*** Freeview STB/TV's will not work)

TNT-HD STB/TV's (The French DTT network) will work but the MHEG-5 interactive service may not be available.
