So, a few months back I decided to take up a voluntary IT job on the WPP Work Scheme. It's shìt pay (€0) but the experience I'm being boosted up with more than makes up for it.

Anyways, a few days ago I got an e-mail from them asking to do a survey..........fair enough. I didn't pass any heed.

But, a few days afterwards I recieved another E-mail from them:
    Hi,
You recently received a message from FÁS asking you to complete a survey on the Work Placement Programme. In this message we mistakenly used the To: instead of the Bcc: for the list of recipients. This meant that each recipient of the message could see the email addresses of all other recipients. Please accept our sincere apologies for this error; we can assure you that this is the first time that such an error has been made and that it will not happen again.
The office of the Data Protection Commission has been made aware of the situation and FÁS will continue to communicate with them on this matter.
We would ask that you delete the original message completely from your mailbox/computer.

I went back to check the original E-mail and, whaddya know, I could see every single person on the WPP Scheme's E-mail address.

Now, I have no use for people's e-mails but surely someone's arse got a right kicking for this?

The good news is there were quite a lot of e-mail addresses so I suppose it's nice to know how many people are on the WPP Scheme :pac:

They're obviously as good at sending out emails as they are at finding people jobs.

E-mail them all a picture of your junk and see what you get back.

What sort of IT work is it? I need to get some experience under my belt CompTIA style.

I don't quite follow, why is this a big deal? Or is it? Also what is a WPP scheme? Why is the sky blue? And where do babies come from?:D

yeah I don't think its a big deal. Happened to me with GCD once or twice.

Its easily avoidable by having a groups called "FAS WPP" or something and just add the addresses into it that way you can't see them, rather than BCC everyone every time

Hmm, so the total amount of E-mail address came out to 1,708.

I like the Nigerian Prince and sending my junk idea, though it maybe high-time to start flogging some fleshlights I have here..............only used a few times. :pac:

A stork brings them and plants them in your garden. Boys come from cabbages and girls come from roses.

Email them all, pretending to be from FAS with a bill for the assistance FAS provided them in getting their work placement. Say that its because of the 'current economic situation' that they now have to charge for this and that payment can be made in installments from their social welfare. Then direct all querys to you local FF TDs or Joe Duffy

I got something similar recently. See below. I have removed all relevant info identifying email addresses and companies. Easier to read from the last email.

The British Computer Society did this a few years ago, instead of having all their members added to an actual mailing list system they just used to BCC everyone, until one day they used TO instead ... They are meant to be a professional body representing the cream of the IT industry in the UK

Symantec did it before with an email promoting a "Privacy and Data Protection" event.

    Edit:

OP you should post the list online....
