The girls are always freindly if you have money ha ha, i lived in phuket for nearlly a year before good spot, hollywood is a bit of a overprised dump imo, i used to go to taipan nightclub in patong quite a bit still is expensive but i liked the live music

    +1 :D

I was there a few years ago. I was in some club with my girlfriend. I was about 24/25, young fit fella. My girlfriend went to the toilet and i saw this fairy hot Thai girl of about a similar age heading towards me. I thought, here we go. Then she walked straight past me and headed for a bunch of about five 60 year old balding fat men and was all over them

I think she probably (correctly) assumed that they would have money and id was just a broke back-packer :D

The girls there are all about the money. They'd gladly go off with a 90 year old geriatric as long as he has money. You see it in every club there. 20 year old thai ones with 60 year old westerners

Lads what's the best (not just cheapest!) way to get to Phuket (and on to Phi Phi)?

A tuk tuk driver took me to two bloody travel agents yesterday, and I was half tempted to just book everything there so that they'd sort it all out! If I'm to do it independently, what's the best way to go about it? Does it work out cheaper than booking a package with a travel agent? The prices they offered were pretty reasonably actually

Don`t got near TAT or any travel agency if you are hoping for a smooth holiday.
Book a flight on airasia, when you arrive share a mini van taxi to patong beach.
When there look at accomodation up on the hill away from the main strip and many many good guest houses offering affordable rates.
You can then check out the boat to phi phi island but accomodation is ot cheap on phi phi so check into this.
Alternatively do a snorkel trip with a stop in phi phi see a lot of it from that.
My experence never book a vip bus in Thailand and steer clear of travel agency packages as they are rarely what they make out to be.
Ohh and neer trust a tuc tuc driver golden rule man

Cheers man, I ended up doin exactly that stuff! Flying with Air Asia to Phuket, staying outside the main town. Getting picked up by the hostel though, which is handy :)

Booked in for 3 nights in Phuket (Patong), dunno whether to extend that and just do day trips to the others islands, or just check out Phuket for the 3 days and then stay on the various islands where possible. Will figure it out when I get there tomorrow :)

Stay away from bangla road it is disgusting and get yourself to Phi Phi straight away! Loved it!

Lads what's the best way to get around Phuket island? The hostel owner recommended hiring a scooter for the day... Thai driving is fvcking nuts, so I wouldn't be entirely comfortable with that, but I also don't fancy relying on public transport either!

What do we reckon? Scooters are fairly cheap

Gonna explore some of Phuket tomorrow, and then goin on a tour to Phi Phi for 1400 baht on Tuesday  Good value!

Thai driving is nuts but I know the lads I was with got scooters and they were okay ..

1400 to phi phi?? depends what your getting in the tour.
I'd recommend just getting the boat over. I stayed in a place called the nice nice resort down at the corner of the beach it was beautiful. As soon as you get off the pier turn left and keep walking straight and its at the very end. Gorgeous bungalow looking over the beach!

Cheers! I'm doin a bit of a tour for 1000 baht, and then I'm staying on Phi Phi Don for 2 nights at least. Should be good! I leave tomorrow morning :)

Dave - ignore that earlier advice - get yourself straight to Bangla road - and Club Hollywood Patong in particular. I hear that place is like heaven, and the girls on Bangla road are some of teh friendliest in the world. let us know how you get on. And if you bump into a girl called Whinney, be sure to say that Ian from london says hello.

Sorry to butt in, but could anyone recommend a hotel in Phuket in and around or close to Rassada pier?
Me and the gf are heading to Phi Phi for 5 days and want to stop in Phuket for a couple of nights before and after we head to the island.

Dave! I'm following your route somewhat - I'll be flying into Phuket in about 3 weeks before heading on to Phi Phi. Any chance you'd advise on where you stayed and any comments. Would you recommend? Advices for Phuket & Phi Phi gratefully received...
