I hope to build a garage in the new year and was thinking of buying a laser level for the job.

There is lots of types out there and i was wondering is there a good all round make that i could buy for a reasonable price.

Depends how much you want to spend I guess.
Firstly you could consider hiring one as you wont have a huge amount of use for one on the shed.
Main things to note are that they are available as self leveling or not. Also, can be got with remote control which can slow/stop the beam to give a solid line at one point instead of a faint beam.

Topcon, dewalt, hilti are all top of the game stuff but as mick says maybe hiring one would be a cheaper option.........they are not cheap to buy.

I would definitely recommend a laser level that has a visible laser line.
The one we use has the options of horizontal, vertical or both together.
It has a gyro system and clamps for mounting on scaffolds, etc.
We have been using them for 7 years and we would never change.
Am I allowed to give the brand and model number in the thread ??
I will PM it to you anyway :)

Thanks for the offer carpenter, but I would need it for a long time because the work will be done when I get home from my day job. Anyway I'm one of these guys who never borrows good gear(tools) and I'm slow to lead as well, unless I know my stuff will be treated tha same way I treat it.

    Thanks again for you offer.

Because thebuild could take ages I don't want to hire a laser level.

madness buying one just for your garage. They are expensive and of course, don't forget the running costs, i.e. calibration, can be expensive too.

Just hire one for a day or two, <Snip>

Mod Edit: There's no need for that.

One or two days are no good as I said in other posts.

I don't think buying a laser level in going to make my garage expensive.

    More advice less drama.

I bought a cheap and nasty one in Lidl for around 14eur for my shed. Its fine but nothing special, also used it on the patio and to hang pictures and some drop down lights. Getting level is a 10 minute job but once done its fine.

you could hire one because you only need to check the height of your beds every 3 or more rows and the final row for the wall plate but judging from your replys you want to buy one.was looking at one myself in a plant hire it came with case, remote, staff, reciever, tripod and i think it was rechargble for around 500 or 600 cant just remember.it was the cheapest around and comes with waranty.de walt are very good use 1 at work and never give trouble but nearly 1000 to buy:eek:
