I have always assumed that this was tautology, as both meant the same thing. However I recently saw a list of aims and a list of objectives for a particular project, but I could not see why some should be in one list and some in the other. Can anyone explain to me what is the difference? Thanks.

Answering myself ... I tried another way of googling it and got the following definition
Aims are the changes you hope to achieve as a result of your work

Objectives are the activities you undertake and the services you offer to bring these changes about

I was going to say think of a golfer 140 metres from the green.

His aim is to get the ball as near to the pin as possible

His objectives then would then be club selection, swing, wind assessment, hazard assessment etc.

In other words the decisions he takes to try to ensure he achieves his aim.

    Would that cover it?
