Emmigrate to UK, years of service counted on points pay scale on return?

    Hi everyone,
Im in Glasgow Scotland at the minute doing my English PGDE as there was not a hope in hell of me taking up my place in NUIM wasting 6 grand on fees and having NO job come Sept...
Im looking for serious advice, should I stay in Scotland take my fully paid probation year and stay on another year, i.e. have 2 years service done in UK and then come home to Ireland, - would my two years service in from Scotland count on the points pay scale when I come home?

Secondly, I have a Hons Masters (and so I had a full maternity contract last year teaching in a VEC school Nov-June, all above board, (had no PGDE as I have a Hons Masters you are not strictly required to hold the PGDE at VEC)
Would my one year of service at home count, or would I be liable to the 10% cut for new entrants if I come home this summer?

    Huge thanks for any advice,

Nobody really knows yet, none of the detail has been released.

But to answer a few of your queries: years done in the UK are counted for years of service here.

If you stay on over there you probably have a better chance of getting a job than you do here and at least you will be able to come home 2 points higher up the scale than you would not getting a job here.

Whether you are classed as a new entrant or not because your years are served in the UK is anyone's guess at the moment.

If you had a contract last year and paid pension contributions then my guess is that it would count as a year's service but no one will be able to say for sure until this budget comes out.

This is a real dilemma for many teachers out there at the moment. The 14% pay cut that new entrants or re-entrants will have to endure is a serious worry. The unions seriously need to look at this. One is unable to emigrate because if you are gone for 6 months or more you will be classed as a re-entrant on return, taking a 14% pay cut into the bargain. This will do nothing but ensure that teachers stay on the dole and remain in the country. Afterall, what incentive is there for them to go abroad when they would only be penalised for it on their return. It's a rediculous situation. The unions have sold out younger teachers.

I must have missed the bit about re-entrants, is that in the four year plan?
