Internet Pass Through on Desire HD

Try to access the internet on a Desire HD through the laptop (has to be through USB since my wifi router died earlier).

Have HTC Sync installed, plug in the phone, select internet pass through .. and nothing.

HTC support suggests checking firewall settings, but I'm not sure what for?

I've gone into Windows Firewall, can add exceptions for a program or port, but I'm not sure what it is I need to allow?

Can you not turn on mobile AP in the settings and use the Desire as a mifi. Go into wireless setting and look for mobile AP.

Unfortunately I'm waiting on VF to sort that end out. The mobile network keeps failing to connect due to incorrect APN setting - though they're right as far as I can see.

On the pass-through, Phone keeps telling me I don't have HTC Sync installed (I do), or another phone is already using the passthrough (it's not). Meanwhile, Windows event viewer is helpfully telling me that "Windows Firewall was unable to notify the user that it blocked an application from accepting incoming connections on the network.", but doesn't give me anything useful like what program it is, which would allow me to add it as an exception in the firewall.

I have the same problem as you, don't know whats up with it either.
If you select htc sycn, you can add music etc to the phone. but when you select the usb pass through, htc sync looses its connection & get the same error as you, firewall or connection already in use, its weird isn't it?!
I'd like to be able to use it as the usb would use less battery on the DHD

Well I worked out from the process ID that the firewall event log messages were to do with lsass.exe, which appears to be local security management for remote logins, so I'm guessing it's something to do with that.
