i have a nissan navara 2003 crew cab, ive always taxed it commercial, they were exempt from normal private tax but still had seats in the back

now when i try to tax it as normal, they want a declaration signed by the guards that it wont be used privately although before this they never looked for this,

when did this new rule come in, and is the navara not exempt anymore??

When taxing a Crew Cab for the first time as a new vehicle or as the new owner of a Crew Cab, you must submit a Crew Cab Declaration Form containing the Names and P.P.S.N. numbers of at least three employees.

this is what i found in relation to crew cabs, it says when taxing it for the first time, i bought it in 2003 and have taxed it several times, this is the forst time ive had this problem

the nevara was exempt at the time from this requirement, that was the big selling point of the nissan nevara at the time, that you could tax them commercially and they could still be used like a family car, to carry passengers etc, they had 5 seats

they were attractive for farming families to use for work and as a family car,

the girl behind the counter said its only came in the last fortnight , can you remove an exemption like that ?? its the only reason i bought the car,

Not sure but I'm sure somebody here will. I suspect there is a lot of panic selling going on for jeeps & crewcabs at the moment becuase of the clamp down on tax

Some of my clients are having issues with this at the moment. Some of the requests currently being made by county councils when taxing commercial vehicles bear no relation to whats written in law.

Bridey behind the counter doesn't have the power to re-write the tax acts on an ad-hoc basis.

On the other hand if your not using a commercial vehicle solely for commercial use you will have to tax it privately.
