i used to follow IGN, but lately i found their scores to be slanted and/or biased.

im looking for a good review of GT5 at the moment, but i dont know who to "trust"

Which websites or reviewers do you follow and find to be good?

    thanks!

1up would be the one I follow the most although they are late with reviews since they don't take exclusives. Giantbomb would be the other one that I would deem trustworthy. IGN really has gone to the dogs, their reviewers are awful and don't know their arse from their elbow. I look at eurogamer as well but some of their reviewers are pretty bad except Ellie Gibson who is always on the button and writes really funny informative reviews. Even if it's a crap minigame collection the review is worth a read and for my money she's the best games journalist around at the moment.

I would rate various forums, 1UP and Giantbomb. I place zero trust in IGN and Eurogamer.

    Zero Punctuation with Yahtzee.

TBH I don't trust any commercial review sites. I prefer to read first hand accounts on forums (like this one).

Really like Eurogamer, except for the odd letdown. RPS offers excellent PC coverage, and Edge always has solid reviews.

Kieron Gillen fromRPS is now gone though which is unfortunate since he was responsible for the good PC coverage. I hate his review style and think his writing is really boring and over analytical but when he says a game is good you can trust him and he is great for uncovering PC indie games.

As for Edge I think their reviews are the worst part of the magazine. They are boring to read and often get it totally wrong or gives scores to be controversial. They do have some great articles (and some really awful over written stuff as well).

I always found Gillen a great writer. Quinns, who replaced him, is an excellent addition to RPS and I always enjoy/mostly agree with his reviews.

Metacritic only tbh. I read the summaries of every review, I feel some are biased and some are not, so Metacritic generally leaves an average I'm mostly happy with

Hmm, I've mixed feelings about Gillen. He does great articles but his reviews are very sterile and every magazine he takes over seems to get ruined by him when he tries to make it too serious and sucks the fun out of it, he destroyed PC Gamer imo. His 'New Games Journalism' manifesto thing is basically BS and I hate that writing style, it's boring as all hell. The only good thing to come out of it was Consolevania taking the absolute piss out of him all the time over it.

ign lost my respect for them when they deducted .5 mark of uncharted 2 for not telling them how to do the stealth kill in the single player and lately with the 8.5 for gt5 though the scores are good , they dont do the games justice. even epic mickey got a 8.0 and that game looks awesome. i rather try the game myself and judge it that way , than to listen to someone else

Kotaku, Joystiq, Eurogamer and GameTrailers are my usual ones....

I stopped visiting IGN a long time ago.

I only read Eurogamer and Gamespot. I know Gamespot doesn't write the most amusing reviews but for a basic rundown of the game and how it stacks up, it does the job.

I mostly read about old games now.

So the fine lads at GameSpite & Hardcore Gaming 101 do me fine.

    RockPaperShotgun for PC coverage though.

Justin Calvert is doing the GT review on Gamespot, I'd take him on his word everytime.

Eurogamer, Giamtbomb and Games TM are the three I place the most stock in. That isn't to say that they don't get it wrong, but if the three of them are in agreement over a game, then I find I usually am too.

Gillen gets drunk one night, writes a blog post and apparently starts this "New Games Journalism" thing, which is indeed BS. Have to agree on that.

I generally only look at GameTrailers review, and then check the metacritic score for the average.

I read destructoid and the Irish run Gaming Liberty occasionally. Destructoid's reviewers vary massively, but overall they're pretty solid imo. Although I swear Jim is trolling most of the time :P

IGN are a joke tbh, and I don't trust gamespot since "the incident". Giant Bomb are pretty decent.

As others have said (that I've thanked). It's usually:

    Gametrailers
    Metacritic
    boards.ie

I like gametrailers mainly because they follow a format similar to "Movies Games and Videos" back in the day, with the review consisting of all in game footage. With the reviewer talking over it. In this fashion, as the reviewer makes a point he can back it up by showing an example of it in game. I tend to ignore the x out 10 score at the end (I hate the scoring system tbh) and base my opinion on how the reviewer actually talked about the game.

Metacritic is good for giving an overall feel for what the consensus about the game is.

Then, I'll follow threads here which will give an ongoing impression of the game as people progress through it. Like with the film or TV forums, there are users here which I feel I have a similar taste in games to so if I see that they enjoyed it, chances are I'll enjoy it also.

If you ever listen to their podcast, you'll know Ellie isnt really a gamer, well the only game she plays with any regularity is farmville! Sure, I agree she writes witty, sarcastic articles which can give you the odd lol, but for someone who knows what makes a good game and who can clearly articulate its pros and cons, there are other contributers to eurogamer who would outshine her.

For a good review of GT5, check out Justin Towell on Gamesradar. Well afaik he hasnt put it up on the site yet, it should be out over the weekend though. Hes a videogame petrol head. The guy puts hours into racing games and I believe held a guinness world record laptime for awhile.

    Anthony Galellgos (sp?)
    Arthur Gies
    Kevin Vanord
    Greg Miller
    Daemon Hatfield
    Jack Devries

I find people who just name websites strange, find reviewers who have the same opinion as you, because that's what a review is an opinion.

    Gamespot mostly.

I generally watch GT and maybe check Metacritic. They haven't steered me wrong with their reviews yet. I read GamesMaster as well. I don't really care for reams of text, as long as the game gets ~8/10 and I like the genre/art-style i'd get it.

If you're iffy about it give it 6 months and get it for much less.

Oddly enough, Gametrailers is the one I follow the most and most surprisingly trust the most. As others have already mentioned their reviews show graphic depictions of in game flaws, glitches, poor dialogue, sound effects etc. and all these help makes their reviews seem more convincing. Not only that but even watching reviews of games I've played to death, I can't help but notice how a good deal of their reviews shows beautiful segments of various gameplay styles shown in the game. Their reviews are generally very well put together.

1up and Eurogamer gets honourable mentions, but I think youtube is becoming a great source to garner gamers opinion with similar interest to yours. (You quickly learn who to avoid ;)) Not only that but you can also she some well constructed videos showing dynamic of multiplayer games have. And, most importantly, it's great for keeping you pumped with excitement for a game. :D

    For example..
