Advice on UPC Digital Options

    Hi Guys,

I'm finally getting around to upgrading from UPC Analogue and I need some advice on going digital.

I don't need HD as I'll be continuing to use a large CRT TV, but I read somewhere that the Digital+HD box is superior than the older Digital+ box - EPG is faster, longer recording storage etc.

Should I go for the HD option (Select Extra HD+ Pack) and pay a little extra for the better box even though I won't be using the HD Channlels?
Also, is there any problem with hooking up a CRT TV to the Digital+HD BOX?
The cost per month of the Digital+ and Digital+HD box appears to be the same at 5 Euro per month.

    Thanks

The HD box has a scart output also and you will be able to look at the HD channels in SD.
The HD box has a bigger hard drive so you will be able to record more.

The EPG isnt any faster on the HD box, in fact Id say if anything its slower than the EPG on my standard digital box. The hard drive space would make it worth it tho, plus you never know when you might upgrade your TV.

Just bear in mind that there is (or at least was a few months ago) a €60 "activation charge" for the HD channels, compared to €30 for the standard digital.

    Thanks for the replies.

I didn't know there was an "Activation charge"!
60 Euros seems a bit steep, considering it would be a self install - The switch to Digital may have to fall into the "Luxury" category and wait until better times!

Neither did I when I signed up... I contested it based on them failing to mention it and it was refunded to me.

I really dont know how they can justify charging €60 to press a few buttons to turn on some channels.

If you upgrade through the Boards Offer in Bargain Alerts you will probably not have to pay the activation fee, plus you'd get a €50 voucher for DID, Carphone Warehouse, Atlantic HC or Woodies. Check it out, & if the offer does not apply to you if you ring 1908 & ask to be put through to the customer loyalty team I'm sure they will waive the activation fee if you ask them to.
