Has anyone any experience with this crowd for repair work?

I have a 5th gen iPod classic which has gone kaput, giving me this screen

Its out of warranty, have been looking up repair centres in Dublin/Ireland and these guys appear to be ok, punctual in coming back to me aswell.

Any other recommendations for ipod repairs?

That's the 6th gen classic not 5th gen and the red cross of death appears when the hard drive is faulty.

Charge it up and then switch it on , when it gets to the red cross hold the back of the ipod to your ear and you'll hear it clicking and clunking, It will sound unhealthy.

If you have the 80gb then it's worth replacing the drive, If you have the 120gb or 160GB then you will spend as much replacing the drive as you would replacing the ipod itself with similar off ebay.

I have recommended & used this crowd before for an I-phone (3GS) that I cracked the screen on, reasonable price and got it returned in 2 days i think. A friend of mine left in an Ipod touch also after this and he had no issues.

Thanks for the reply.. yeah there are some odd sounds coming from it alright when I turn it on. Ihave the 120gb hard drive and was quoted €125 by ipodrepaircentre, I see you offer it cheaper for €106!

Have a friend in Hong Kong at the minute and he can pick me up a new 160gb classic there for around €170, I think I may go down that route as it'll have warranty... overall this is my 4th iPod thats needed replacing damnit

You could of course replace the 120gb drive with an 80GB but is sounds like you want more space if you are considering the 160GB upgrade.

The one your friend is offering for €170, is that the fatty or the thinny?
What i mean by that is that there are two models, The 160GB drive comes in two forms, 5mm (thinny) and 8mm double platter (fatty) .

The difference shows in the backplate being a couple of mm's deeper on the fatty than the one you have now.

If it's a fatty i can offer you a better price.

Excuse me, I think you're wrong there. The title of the thread is ipodrepaircentre.ie and people asking if they're reputable. I've used them and said so.
Fail to see how that's me spamming a thread, nevermind the entire forum.
