The sad news reached me in just the last few minutes that Tony Dixon - one of the nicest and most positive guys in Irish radio passed away tonight after a short illness.

    R.I.P. Tony D.

That's sad to hear, he was always a fun DJ to listen to. Everytime I hear the words "R&B", the voice in my head says "with Tony D!"

I couldn't believe the news this morning. One of the all time legends of Irish radio. Gone way before his time.

Just to let you know that Andy Preston is doing a special R n B show dedicated to Tony D tonight at 6pm on FM104. I'm sure it will be emotional.

Tony Dixon was clearly a very influential deejay in Dublin. As well as doing many gigs in clubs over the years, he popped up on a number of pirate stations over the decades: Big D, Sunshine Radio, Q102, DLR, Kiss103, Club FM (Station Manager), Pulse FM and ESG FM. He started in the late '70s and finished in the year 2000 with the pirates.

I would not have been overly familiar with Tony Dixon, and I have never been a fan of R 'n' B. However, I did hear him on a handful or so of occasions on Pulse, ESG and FM104 and I could hear the enthusiasm he had for what he was doing and the music he was playing. Like a handful of other specialist music presenters, Tony was different from the normal playlist stick-to-the-script deejays we are so used to.

It is sad to lose such a unique talent so young - a person who was clearly an inspiration for many other deejays over the years.

    R.I.P.

Listened to it. was touching. :)

everyone had nice things to say about him. Pity, when bad people are still stumbling along this world, and Tony D, a genuinly nice guy passed away. tis a sad time in irish radio.

Hi there. I am working on a tribute to Tony Dixon for his 2nd Anniversary. Would anyone like to share with me their memories of Tony. As I'm sure you know he presented many different radio shows on different stations and I would like to hear what you liked most about him. Tony was also well known for his nightclub "Hollywood Nights". If you could share any recollections with me I would be very grateful. Thanks and I am hope to hear from you soon.

As a teenager I used to listen to Pulse FM.

I remember on their last day in summer 1999 (they closed to continue a campaign for a legit radio licence) he played this as his last song.

It nearly made me cry, and I think it's appropriate to post up.

RIP to a soulful and terrific guy.

Where are you doing the tribute ?

I worked with Tony. Anyone you ask will use the one word, gentleman. Which he was.

Some audio from the pirate days.

    Tony on Sunshine in 1981

    On Kiss FM in 1994

    on Pulse 103 in 1999

Hoping to have the tribute on FM104 later in the year around Tony's second anniversary which will be at the end of November.

Thanks for that link STB, was great to hear his voice.
