I got banned from driving in may 09 until may 11, I have no licence and never have had one. I intend getting one soon. Does anyone know if my ban will only be activated when I do get a licence or will I have served it by may 2011.

Its just ive been told a few different things by people but im still in the dark....

Thanks in advance for your replys, if any!

Did you steal somebody's car? Reckless driving without a licence or insurance? Drunk driving without a licence or insurance? Hope you didn't hurt anybody.

I presume the ban means you won't be given a valid licence until the period of the ban expires, thankfully. Someone with more specific legal knowledge might be along in a bit.

Disqualification acts independently of whether you hold a licence or not.

The three year endorsement after disqualification only kicks in when you get a licence/learner's permit.

    Technical clarification.........

You do not get banned from driving, you get disqualified from holding a driving licence. The difference is that in certain scenarios like the Gardai and Army you can still drive because people in those jobs can drive without a civilian driving licence.

Normally the cops and army will ground someone someone who has been disqualified in civvie street but if they choose to ignore the disqualification they can allow the individual to drive on while on official business.

I don't think you can apply for one during the course of a ban. You could probably do the theory test but that's about it. You seem to have gotten off very light in your previous conviction. Judge must have been in a good mood.
