Water slow to heat since new element

Had to get element replaced in my immersion tank a few weeks back. Since then however i've noticed that the water is an awful lot slower to heat up, even when i've the heating on (i use oil)
The element he replaced was the same size as the one he took out-was a different make though-, and it's only a small tank anyway, so it shouldn't take long to heat.
I didn't take much notice of it as 1st-presumed it was cos the tank had to be refilled. But it's been about a month or so now, and it's still not much better.
Does it take a while for a new element to kick in properly, or might there be something wrong with it?
    Thanks.

is it the same kw rating?
If it's a duel ( sink / bath) it may be wired incorrectly is it any quicker set to sink?

ask him to come back and check it out for you there is no bedding in time with elements they just work or not.

Oh, i had thought that different size elements meant different size kw's? My knowledge of heating is pretty low!
It's not a duel no cos the tank is so small. I do have a duel switch however and was told it didn't make any difference whether i had it on bath or sink. I might flick it back and see does that make any difference..

Size of tank is not the issue.

If the heater element is verticle in the cylinder ( approx 30" long) then its a probably dual element.
It actually has two elements built into it.
One is a short "Sink" element the other one is a longer element "Bath".
Therfore you have a switch dual switch. Sink heats top section of cylinder only and bath heats up all the cylinder.

Either way the water should get hot ( around 65C) the only difference is the amount of hot water.
There is an internal temperature thermostat built in to the element. This is factory preset. ( The thermostat may be faulty).

RE: time taken to heat water.
Also this time of year the cold water in your tank in the attic is going to be much colder. this feeds in to the cylinder and therfore the heater will take longer to heat up the water.
This applies to you oil heating the cylinder as well.

No i was told it definitely wasn't a duel element. The element is at the side of the tank so i'm presuming it's horizontal?
Someone gave me a few things to try and got it sorted out a little bit, but i'll get the original plumber to have a look at it next time he's around, cos i didn't fancy taking the element out in case something went wrong!
    Thanks.

    Correction then.
If you have a side element then you are right, the element is a single type.
It is unusual to have a dual switch. It should be a double pole 20Amp switch.
The electrician should have ideally replaced the switch to avoid confusion as the dual switch should only work in either sink or bath setting.(unless it has been bridged internally).

Anyhow the internal stat may be tripped. There is a small reset button in the top of the heater. Switch power off and then Try pressing this in. Turn heater back on and see if it works.

Alternatively get an electrician to check electrics/switch/heater and the current (amps) the heater is pulling.
