HSPA+ modem, pigtail and external antenna

I'd like to fix an external antenna to my house in an attempt to get as strong a HSD/UPA signal from 3 NBS and try and limit the cell breathing effects a bit.

And I'd like to get a reliable modem that crashes as little as possible, and has a pigtail connector for it.

Any recommendations for the type of external outdoor antenna I should get, the type of cable I should use and the length I need to keep it under, and a modem I should use?

I have a dovado 3GN but if you think a PCMCIA modem would be more reliable and to use a suitable router for that instead, I could go that route too.

    Thanks

Just get a USB modem with aerial socket and put Dovado near the aerial (short cable). I doubt you would easily get a "modern" PCMCIA model. The Express Card versions are just USB. The Express card slot has a USB connection as well as PCI-e, no current Modem models use the PCI-e bus. Also the laptop internal Mini-PCI-e slot the WiFi cards use the PCI-e bus but 3G/HSPA modems just use the USB + power pins on the connector.

    Oh right, thanks.

On the 3Connect.app it usually shows about 1/3rd of the reception bars filled. I'm not sure which mast we are using in the area. Would an outdoor omni or directional antenna be a better choice?

How long of a cable to the modem is acceptable before the signal degrades?

    Thanks
