Hi - long time lurker, first time poster. :)

Just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to shift my car? It's been up on donedeal for 10 days without much interest. Here are the details:

2006 Ford Focus LX 1.6 Petrol

    5 Door Hatchback

    Black

    Manual

    99000 km / 62000 miles

    Tax 12/2010

    NCT 10/2012

    Serviced 27/10, incl tyres

    2 owners

Electric windows, cd player, alloy wheels.

    Asking €7000. Is this reasonable?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Looking at Carzone I would say you might get around 6 for it but leave it priced at 7 for another while, if someone wants to buy it at 6 they will view it if your advertising at 7 and make you an offer.

Do you have decent photos up of the car in spotless condition that would make someone actually want to view the car based on the photos?

The photos are decent enough. Not the best weather at the time. Just after putting it on adverts too.

Yes looks well. Probably a bad time coming up to Christmas and the Budget to be selling a car, you might have to give it until January til things pick up.

i think the first thing you have to do op is be patient.
i had a 02 focus for sale for near 2 months. very little interest/crazy offers on phone/ viewers not showing.
the first person who came to view the car bought it. my car needed nothing doing / full service history all the paper work./no faults.
make sure there is no faults on the car no mater how small and car is very clean inside and out.(this was the big seller for my car. clean looks well cared for. and black cars do come up a treat.
when someone comes to view the car do not sound desperate to sell.
the guy that came to buy my car tried every trick in the book to knock money off the price. ie recession/moneys tight etc. I told him i was in no hurry to sell and would let the car rot before i would let it go for the crazy money he was offering. in the end after 30mins he handed over 3k cash asking price.:)
moral is as i see it, if you have a quality car and your not in a hurry to sell you will get your asking price.
    good luck with your sale.

You have no shot of the interior as in the seats etc. Try and adjust the price down a small bit. Nice clean Focus and should be desirable compared to the useless 1.4.:)

as above. 1.6 is a much better engine. 1.4 is lifeless. use this as a selling point.

That would have even been bad advice in the past ,in the 'current economic climate' its a recipe for deafening silence in my opinion.Stick it in for 5999 if your prepared to take 6 and be thankful to get 5950...

Better than 6.5 in 4 months time in the EXTREMELY event you got it ...

Thanks a million for the replies lads.

I know it's a rubbish time to be selling a car! 1.6 should be a help. Have a few more shots on donedeal, too.

I think I'll leave it for a little bit longer anyway and see what happens. Not in a huge rush to get rid, just surprised there's not more interest!
Would like to get a good price as it is in good nick.

I don't know about it being a bad time of year to be selling a car. I put my car up for sale 2 weeks ago, got a couple of phone calls 2 days later, the first person to view it bought it at very close to the asking price. I really didn't expect to sell it that quickly but it went all the same.

Of course there probably is a element of good timing involved where you are selling exactly what somebody has been looking for but if the car is a popular model, the advert is presented well and the price is realistic compared to similar cars then it should sell, just might take a bit longer. While the country is suffering from economic troubles, a good percentage of people still do have money and are buying cars.

I've dropped the price to €6250...hoping interest picks up a bit!

One of the reasons dealers give such poor trade in prices is because cars can take weeks if not months to sell, 10 days is nothing. Wait it out ;) Put the price back up to €6750 or so, at €6250 folks will offer you €5500 or so, if you get no interest at €6250 in the next 10 days will you drop it to €5750 ??????
