Computer compromised

Hi, I had an alarming look at my parents credit card bill when I saw that blurb.com had taken money from me which I did not pay for. I never gave them any credit card details and I never agreed to any payment.

I suspect my computer/credit card has been compromised.
Stupidly I ignored changing all my passwords that time boards was compromised and I just amn't sure what step to take next.

IF my parents credit card has been compromised through my previous use of it on my computer and IF I have fallen victim to a key-logger, I would appreciate any advice.
I have no idea what to do.

Should changing passwords for my paypal account be enough, and what if I have fallen victim to a keylogger...

I'm oblivious as to what to do next.

    Thanks in advance
    Chris

First off contact the credit card company and explain to them what has happened. They will have dealt with this quite a bit. More than likely you will be issued with a new card with a new number to stop the old one being used again. Changing your paypal password alone will not solve the problem, although it would be advisable to change passwords anyway.

Although it is easy to just have one password for everything, its good security to have 1 password for free stuff you sign up to, a different one for email that should ONLY be used for email and another one or more for sites where credits cards are involved (ebay, paypal, amazon etc..)

EDIT: If youre worried about malware on your machine, take it to someone who knows about this stuff and get them to check it out. Doesnt have to be a company, could be a friend, but make sure they know what they are doing. None of this "Ah rita's young fella is great with computers, he typed my cv for me" kinda recommendation!! :D

if you are worried about a key logger you could change your password using someone elses computer

use Shift Control P to change to private mode in most web browsers, make sure it says https:// on the site (S is for secure )

moving to malware - so you can scan your machine

even if there is no malware you might have been hit by a cross site script, :(
or by phisihing from an email
or if using another computer and you didn't log out of each web page, someone else may have used an unexpired session

or the cc could have been picked up somewhere else than the computer

Do you have anti-virus software ? Is it up to date and do you frequently get updates ? this is usually automatic

What is the name of anti-virus software. Some people have what they think is anti-virus software but is actually fake. It is a virus that asks for visa details every few months. an example would be anti-virus live. If you have one of these or no anti-virus and you are in any doubt then in my opinion format and re-install
