Moneybookers and PayPal

I have a Moneybookers debit mastercard which is linked to my PayPal account. I saw something I wanted to buy which costs $80. So I upload 61 euros into my moneybookers account by Laser, then logged into PayPal to pay the seller.

I press "Pay Now" and it starts loading, but I got the message "You cannot complete this action on the card you have selected." That's fine, maybe I didn't upload enough. So I log back in to my Moneybookers account, only to find that 58.31 euros had been taken from my account

I check my PayPal account to see if maybe the payment had gone through, but nope, no payments sent today. I asked the seller if he had received any money via PayPal but he said no too. I tried to ring moneybookers on their UK and US numbers but all I can hear is some weird noise on the other end. I e-mailed them so just waiting for a reply now.

Where the hell could my money have gone to ?? I've made over 30 payments on PayPal using my moneybookers mastercard but never had anything like this happen before.

It's probable that the money hasn't been taken from your account, but the attempted, and failed, transaction has put a hold on that money. This happens all the time when a credit card transaction fails, and usually takes several days for the hold to be released. With a real credit card, you'd not normally notice it, but with pre-pay, you notice the loaded money disappear immediately.

You'll have to ask Moneybookers how long it will take and if it could be expedited.

€61 might be too little to convert to $80. This could be why the transaction failed, because there wasn't enough money there.

Just checked that, and currently Paypal will charge €61.69 for and $80 spend, so you hadn't got enough funds available.

Thanks for that, I feel a little bit better now :)

It's weird though because they only put on hold 58 euro something and not the full 61 euro. Also I recall a few times, maybe 4 or 5 times now where I tried to pay for something and didn't have enough in my account, but they've never put any amount on hold or anything like that. That's why I seriously freaked out when I saw my balance had been reduced to 2 euro something this time.

You're probably right though, maybe it's just on hold because there is no record of any payment going through on PayPal. I'll find out for sure when they reply to my message.

We had a similar problem recently with 3V , buying from USA .

The money was taken and remained frozen for 7 days . - 3V told us when the money would return and become available .

In our case , the error occurred because we forgot to enter the 3 digit CVs code , when adding card to paypal .

Yeah I hope that's the case with mine as well. Although I'd rather not wait 7 days, I want to pay the item and get it shipped as soon as possible.

    Just received a reply

    Thank you for contacting Moneybookers.

In relation to the payment attempts with the Moneybookers MasterCard on 24th November 2010, please note that we had some system maintenance that has already been fixed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

However, the funds are now again available in the Moneybookers balance. Thank you for your understanding.

If you need any further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us.

    Thank you for using Moneybookers!

    Kind regards,

    Zheni

Checked my account just now, have my money back :)
