Friend was scammed

My friend was scammed, buying a laptop.
Not on adverts, but on a simlar site, with no secure payment method.

He paid for it via paypal, and was told he'd receive it by registered post.

As soon as he sent the money, the seller told him that the money was sent to his fake account, and that it would be sent to another fake off shore account, before reaching his real account.

    What can he do?
The guy had reputation on the site. Really puts me off buying things.

Has he tried raising a claim with PayPal?

I don't get this. Why would a scammer tell you his account is fake?

All he can do is start a dispute about the transaction.

MBurkeyy, AKA AbsoluteStress, AKA SeanKev the scammer, banned for re-reg accounts. I really hope it was you that was just scammed, and not your "friend". It would serve you right.
