Passat Question ?

    Recently bought a 04 Passat 1.9 tdi 130.
The computer says when warning light comes on for low fuel I have 55 or 60 miles left. If i drive hard for 100 metres this will drop rapidly. The book says I have 8 litres of fuel left. Usually that would get me 80+ miles. What does the reserve do in your passat?

It is better not to leave the fuel tank go too low, otherwise the fuel pump will start sucking up sediment as well as fuel, which is not a good idea! Try and fill up when the low fuel light comes on!

The distance to empty (DTE) is worked out differently in different cars, but I think the VAG takes account of the instantaneous consumption as well as the overall average consumption.

Driving it hard for a period will lower the DTE, but driving it a bit easier should increase the DTE again.

My Golf one is similar, it goes from 60kms>50>40>30>20>10 in no time at all but will sit 10 for an age. I just fill up when it comes on or before.

Depends on how you drive it and where you're driving. But around 600 miles should be possible from around 55 litres.
