Is this going to be John Cena in a mask, ala Hulk Hogan as Mr. America?

No it is going to be even better, it is going to be Ray Cena! The high flying immigrant who never takes a beat down!

Maybe Juan Cena is the Raw GM

It is funny how my semi-mocking post on Monday about the idiotic things they could do to keep him on TV included the possibilities of him with an idiotic mask idea, buying a ticket for a show or the GM re-hiring him. Even I as a pretty massive skeptic of the long-term thinking of the WWE did not think they would be well on the way to all of these after 3 days!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

I really think that this keeping Cena's house show dates so the house show attendance doesn't drop to zero. I reckon Cena'll be at RAW next week, interfere, and the GM will ban him from RAW completely. (and we'll see you at the Rumble to eliminate Barrett)

It's kinda like when Cena was commanded to obey Barrett after HiaC when he 'injured' Tarver despite being part of the Nexus.

Well, if Cena's on RAW in two weeks' time I'll start giving out :pac::pac:

But why would the Raw GM ban him from Raw? The GM wants ratings and attendances as high as possible, so it wouldn't make sense for him to enforce this stipulation.

Cena should be a man, honour the contract stipulation, and walk away (until the turn of the new year at least)

You're right, Cena shouldn't have interfered at the end of RAW last week -- and honor the stip -- but sure the RAW GM is a heel. I think they spell these things out (show the alternative and stop it) on purpose so the audience know what's going on.

If the GM starts talking about attendance figures, ratings and getting over (and how belts are fake) maybe the RAW GM is Hulk Hogan :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,888 ✭✭✭Charisteas

Bad ratings just doesn't work for the Hulkster, brother.

Do you think there's any chance that the GM turns out to be a babyface though? Lately, he (or she) has been banning Nexus from ringside, and giving Natalya a million title-shots until she actually won the belt, and also played a big role in Jericho and Edge leaving Raw. Unless these goodwill gestures could just be a diversion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

I guarantee you're putting more thought into the RAW GM than WWE!

Whenever Cole/McMahon (most likely Cole) gets revealed as the RAW GM there's gonna be tons of contradictory booking :p

Just a case of keeping up the ticket sales.

At recent house show here Cena was not advertised to appear but still lots of his merchendise was on sale and sold a lot. But you had lots of kids chant for Cena during the main event between Orton and Wade Barrett

Why doesn't Cena just F'off to smackdown for a few months.

That way they could keep smackdown PG with Cena plying his trade over there for the soccer mom's and their kids... allowing RAW to go back to the attitude era, esp now that linda is finished politically (hopefully)

That won't happen for a long while.

Tna has been doing 'attitude' style storylines for a while now and it hasn't worked.
Wwe has come to terms that their "attitude" fans have moved to mma.
And the ones left, like us, are just "s/marks".

Yeah, the matches the wrestlers put on are brilliant, imo.
But they shouldn't be struggling with not having a pg rating over them.

Like they can literally do anything, and they don't. Wrecks my head!

That said, if wwe were to drop their pg, I coups see them somewhat losing viewership that they have built over the last few years.

WWE being PG is not the problem, idiotic booking and problems creating new top stars is the issue. Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker still had 2 great matches and an interesting feud under the PG remit.

They don't need to go full hog into an Attitude era like they did before, I'd be happy with a happy medium between that and the PG-era. Like only use blood and hardcore matches at PPV's as a way to end feuds.

Right now TLC matches and HIAC matches mean nothing as they seem like any other match as the violence aspect of them has been dumbed down to the PG-era.

Spend on what? Merchandise can be kept in a museum esque like nature. No need to future spend!

Maybe its just me but invest emotionally? I haven't been able do that in 6years!

    Ergo! Concordantly! Vis-a-vis! :pac:

Some of us still get great enjoyment from pro-wrestling. Sure it's not as good as it was "in the good old days" but there's still things to enjoy and worth spending a few hours a week keeping up. This applies to practically everyone on the PW boards, and if it doesn't apply to you, you shouldn't be here! (You should be on whatever forum you do enjoy)

Some people can't stand MMA even though it's promoted like pro-wrestling. It's a sport, this is a TV show. Personally I would've been much more likely to get into MMA if it wasn't for the torrent of condescending dismissal MMA fanboys unleash when they talk about pro-wrestling.

I love MMA, have done for years but I also love WWE and have done for years. I don't get why there needs to be the one vs the other mentality.
I do know that the " as real as it gets " tagline is a dig at wrestling but sure WWE is what it says entertainment.
Dont let these MMA guys with egos to protect and closed minds hold you back from enjoying it, it will give you two sports to enjoy ;)

MMA is basically pro wrestling anyway tbh.

As psyched as I was that Miz won the title, I couldn't help but slam my laptop shut when I saw this

    WTF:mad::mad::mad:

Isn't Randy supposed to be am emotionless bastard who not only kicks people in the head and ends careers, but actually kicked Cena AND his father in the head? Oh, and he also tortured him with a kendo stick and actually tried to blow him up during their Ironman match last year

    Some consistency please

Randy's a face now, and all faces get along, no matter what they did last year! (That's about the best 'excuse' you'll get in WWE)

Well it's quite possible that Randy'll turn heel again since his face run has been pretty poor. I blame him for not going full-face and embracing the crowd (he doesn't have to force a smile or anything lame...)

I read somewhere that they were apparently bricking it that ratings would tank if they kept Cena off tv for a few weeks. Hence this embarassingly idiotic move.

Here is a photo of Juan Cena

<Snip Teamshadowclan beat me to it!>
Not sure if this will ever make TV. I really hope not, though if he does my predictions of what will happen will exactly come true. Given how predictable they are, he will probably have "bought his ticket" tonight, eventually get kicked out and the return next week as Juan Cena.

Edit: That photo of Juan Cena has just had a very popular few minutes :D

If the Juan Cean thing is just for house shows, then so be it! But by the looks of that pic, if it is gonna be brought into the main Raw Storyline, then it will just ruin everything that has been done over the last month or so (which i think was all done very very well).

They could have at least got rid of all the "Cenation - Never Give Up" gear on him. I mean if they really want people to believe this is a Mystery Man they could have done a waaaaaaaaaaaay better job.

But like i said above, if it stays just on House shows then it's all ok

I don't think they want people to think its some mystery man. The entire joke is that its obviously Cena, even down to the fact they wear the same clothes.

Yeah they really should have made him a serious mystery masked competitor.
Where he comes in next week with a Juan Sína gimmick, being hired by the mystery GM.
Like hogans "mr america", i can see this being an absolute train wreck. :(

Wonder how long creative took to come up with Juan Cena??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,801 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

This is the stupidest gimmick of all time.

Exact same as when Hulk Hogan was fired and he came back as Mr. America.

Have they that little creativity at the WWE that they are blindly re-doing the gimmick.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,788 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

You're surprised they are recycling gimmicks when on Smackdown alone, we've got Kurt Swagger and Alberto Del Layfield. or on Raw, we've got the Nexus World Order.

Reusing old stories and gimmicks is nothing new and tbh, the "fired and then masked" story is one which hasn't been used for quite a while. A lot of the current Cena fans would have no real lasting memories of the Mr. America angle (not to mention, I'm sure Hogan wasn't the last one to use that idea, nor was he the first. Hell, Miz used the angle only a little while ago...).

I expected this angle and said as much on here after he was fired. We should have no faith in the WWE creative department. This angle will follow the same pattern as all have before it.
    A few possibles could be:

They just blatantly ignore the story and have Cena appear and challenge all of Nexus to a match. Cena could appear in the front row at an event under the guise of "he bought a ticket blah blah blah"

Some sort of idiotic character in a mask a la Hulk Hogan

General manager or Vince McMahon over rule the decison and re-instate him as happened when Undertaker lost the career match against Edge.

Basically there is an entire history of ignoring retirement stipulations ripe for re-use!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Didn't Kurt Angle going around as a masked mexican for a few weeks while feuding with Eddie? Also Edge & Christian did it as Los Conquistadors for a bit in the attitude era as well :pac:

Honestly I'm reserving judgment until after tonight's RAW. If Cena doesn't get kicked off RAW permanently (and will actually not miss a show) then I'll have to give out.

I'd also say that the Nexus gimmick is sufficiently different than the nWo to call it a rip-off. It's centered around Cena and features rookies. Now Immortal and Fortune.....waah!! :p

The nWO and nexus couldn't be anymore different. One was a vehicle for the biggest ego's in WCW to hang onto their place at the top of the card (to the detriment of the rest of the roster), the other has been one of the most effective and intriguing booking tools in a long time to make a bunch of untried nobodies into a legitimate threat and make a Main Eventer in Wade Barrett overnight.
