PS3 and Belkin issue perhaps?

I have a PS3 wired to a Belkin router and trying to play SSF4 online but most of the time it fails to join sessions and when it doesn't fail, it lags. The ISP is UPC. Any suggestions on fixing this? Or else if it's the Belkin router then suggest a better router?

i have a belkin, no problems, have at all, i find it excellent, have you updated to latest router firmware, there have been 2 updates since September for my model, (F7D4302 v1) maybe its the same for yours ?? one of the updates specifically fixed a ps3 issue
