Eircom Broadband

    A friend asked me for help with eircom broadband. He was on IMB but was upgraded to 8MB on the next generation BB. Since then and with the same usage he is exceeding the 10 gig download limit. How is this

    I cannot answer so am asking here.....

    I cannot answer so am asking here.....
    It because uploads are the same as download as in usage so on a higher speed you would use it quicker like watching youtube facebook and all that it suck there is a away of keeping track of your usage by downloading the ngb broadband usage meter on eircom homepage hope that helps.

    Does same friend have some file sharing software running, allowing people to constantly leech, ergo causing high upload data, which presumably wasn't counted as usage before NGB?

    well he could ask to go back on his 1mb package slower speed so he would use he 10gb usage a lot slower really dont know why they dont increase the download limit 10gb a joke.

    He was probably exceeding the limit before too, but they didn't enforce the cap on the old packages, so he wouldn't have noticed. He can either cut his usage, or upgrade to a higher cap.

    Its an old Eircom account so the question has to be asked does he have an Eircom Netopia router setup with the default settings or wireless with no security, both are the same really.

    Someone might have always been leeching off the wireless but it would have been less noticable on the 1Mb package.
