Airport Express question

    I'm looking for a way to stream music from the imac (upstairs) to the stereo downstairs.

    I'm going to be putting in a mac mini at the TV using plex for TV/Movies & have another thread in here asking about streaming itunes playlists which would be great if possible.

    I was looking at the apple site & there's the airport express which seems to do the job.... But... Is this all I need ?

    I have a UPC router upstairs beside the imac & am running homeplugs off that to other parts of the house.

    Does this just plug into the mains & stream wirelessly from the imac with no need for a network connection ?

    Also, how do I know what's coming next or select music or does that have to happen from the imac ?

    Yes, it's all you need. You have to make it join your existing network, then iTunes will find it and stream to it. How you play music back -library, playlist, shuffle, is up to you, but you can use the Remote app from the app store to control with an iOS dvice.

    You could also just drop your music on to the Mac mini and play it directly or use the home sharing function in iTunes. You'll only need to get an airport if you want to play the same music in both rooms at the same time.

    Agreed . I have 2 expess for stereos at back and front of house . Expess joins your UPC network . Control from iTunes on your laptop . Convenient, impressive. Can lend you one for a week if you pick up tmrw. . .

    Appreciate the offer spinnaker. Going to hold off right now as I picked up a mac mini during the week which is now residing under the TV with my entire music collection. :)

    I wish I could figure out how to get plex to do itunes playlisting though :/

    Zumocast will do your playlists.
