buying from garage, VRC is "on the way" but not yet with the garage. planning to collect car but should i demand to see the VRC before I buy? cartell check looks fine on everthing else, i just cant verify the details of the car against the VRC!

Probably best to wait for it, so as not to get stung.

thanks - so even if it takes another 1-2 weeks to arrive, I should insist on not paying for/ taking the car until I have reviewed it?

    YES!!

NEVER buy a car until the VLC is signed, dealer or private sale.

This forces the seller to get their finger out too if its missing to get the replacement ASAP.

dealer telling me the VRC does not need to be signed by me, he can do it all online without needing me to sign. is this possible?

Where does dealer need to wait for the cert? where is it coming from?
If car traded in to them, they get the cert direct from owner. If car is moved through the trade, does the cert just move with the car from dealer to dealer?

Personally I wouldnt do a deal without the cert being present. A family member previously did this and garage then failed to produce the cert. It was left to us to go about it, involving garda forms, garage declaration etc. Not worth the risk/hassle.

You would be suprised how many people "misplace" log books, i then have to apply for new ones when i have the car. Some dealers are just as bad at passing on log books, if i sell a car in the trade i give the book with the car but alot dont and just put it on the long finger. If i was to not accept cars without logbooks i wouldnt have half my stock:p

OP Iv sold cars without the book before, If the car is in the dealers name and he is genuinley waiting on the book he can ring shannon and ask for the VLC number off the book, he needs this to transfer it to you along with the reg and last 6 of the chassis. then he file the book when he gets it. I have had to do this a couple of times when i didnt have books.

    Hope this helps

To be honest, this response really says to me that its very foolish to buy without having the book as why would the dealer even bother chasing it up if car is gone and cash in pocket?
Not getting at you in any way Kildare17 but many dealers are chancers

Thanks for clearing that up:), I honestly didn't know it was now done that way.

Is this available for all dealers? or just the decent ones?
