    Hi all
hope someone has some advice on this... i have been a user of ipods since they first came out but this has stumped me!
my friend has an iphone 3GS that i put all cds he had onto in the beginning. in the meantime he must have plug it into another computer (he says he didn't!) but when i go to add a song to it manually i can't.
I check "manually manage" songs on the summary page but now it wants me to Erase & sync again.... what a load of bo***x!
I downloaded copytrans manager and added the songs for him and also freed up some space.... how come itunes couldn't do this!

    1. is there any way to manually manage the device without erasing and syncing and using a 3rd party software?
    2. if not, is there any way to backup the music on it? he has a new laptop since the initial upload of music so i don't fancy ripping all those cd's again.
    3. i used the backup on itunes that seems like a pile of poo!

    any help would be great.

You'd have to SSH into it to get the music, but that would involve jailbreaking it, which we're not allowed to talk about it on the forum. (It's kinda silly though, as it's not considered illegal anymore since Apple lost that court case )

don't fancy jailbreaking it since its not my own.... more maintenance for me! i think he'll have to rip those cds himself. many thanks for the quick reply.

You can get programs to transfer the files off the phone without the need to jailbreak. I used iMacsoft phone to pc transfer to do it before.

Ur talking rubbish. First off discussing jailbreaking is allowed. Piracy isn't
Also there's no need to ssh to get the music

OP download a program called sharepod, it will Transfer all the music off the iPod to a folder of your choice so ya can sync it all again
