Dilemna with my Car...

My car is a 2002 VW SDI Golf. I have just paid the annual €580 tax and the NCT is valid until January 2012. I bought it in 2008 and have €4,000 left to pay on my loan. It wouldn't start for me on Sunday and turns out the head is gone. It needs a new engine. The mechanic says it will end up costing me €1200 (with labour).

I really don't know what to do. It is an 8 year old car and I'm not sure if it's worth spending more money on it than I have to. But then again, I will only be spending even more if I decide to buy a new car.

    What do ye think?

Fix it you'd be lucky to get 100euro from the scrap yard for it. Spend 1200euro and you know your car is spot on or spend even more on a another second hand car and hope everything is alright.

Its the SDI so simply cut a large hole in the floor where drivers legs usually rest and turn it into a fred flintstone car. It will certainly be quicker!

Id get it fixed and drive on at least til its paid for.

Fix it and decide at the next NCT whether it's worth keeping beyond that.
