    Hello,

I took a career break to go back to college. I applied for the grant. But now they are looking for my P45; I dont have a P45 and employment was not terminated... Would this prevent me from getting the grant?

possibly, depends on what your previous earnings are/were. get a letter from the employer stating the nature of the break, and any wages they are/arent paying you. you may be able to wangle it as a change of circumstances, but no guarantee.

I am not getting paid any wages. Hence, I apply for a grant to live while I am on this break...

I read through all the criteria when applying and as far as I can tell, my previous earnings should allow me to get some sort of grant.

get a letter from your employer stating this then. any p21/p60 you'll be obliged to submit will still have them listed so the grant office will demand proof you're not earning currently.

Now, they are looking for P60's from 3 of the last 5 years. Where can i get these? Employer ? Tax office? Where?

On another note, Why didnt they ask for these in the original application???

your employer gave you them every year. they /may/ have additional copies, you may get away with presenting p21s instead/as well.

its normally only based on the previous year's income, i suppose if you're taking a career break they want to know that you've been with the employer long enough to be entitled. also you need to prove you were resident during three of the last five years anyway.

Yes, this is what they are looking for - they have asked for this and then say, for example. P60's. No other examples given; Not sure what else I could provide...

bills, bank statements, anything whatsoever with your address

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    they do.........

get a letter saying you are on an unapid career break.

they are looking to for a p45 as that document allows them to discount all the income earned in the year the p45 covers..

is it a change in circumstances or a choice????

I chose to take a career break and go back to college. Does this make a difference?

Yup. Grants are designed for people who can't afford to go to college in the first place, not for people who choose to stop working in order to return to education. Your grant will be based on last years income as it isn't a forced change oin circumstances.
