    Hi Folks,

Have emigrated to Mayo from the South Coast and want to get my lines wet with a spot of Pier fishing. Anyone any advice on marks around the Ballina area, tips, baits, species etc...

    Any advice appreciated!

    Cheers

    JP

Pier fishing is poor in this area im afraid.

Inniscrone - busy, small pier head, not a lot going there.
Lacken Pier - loads of sea weed, obstacles, but alledgedly good for congers.....
Moy Estuary - Lovely spot for good fresh sea trout but were currently out of season

The best advice I can give you is to head to Kilcummen Pier, float a mackeral strip or sand eel and your 100% going to go home with a pollack

In an ideal world, Spideal pier in Galway and the marks at black head in county clare are the best in the country!!! Good luck

I've had some great fun on the estuary after the sea trout alright and you'll get salmon and the occasional sea bass there too. Agree about the peir in enniscrone, very small area to fish off, but again you'll hit the odd sea trout and salmon there along with pollock and eels. When the mackerel are in they come right up to the shore near the peir so thats always fun too.

I have never in 28 years of fishing seen anyone catch a salmon or a sea trout off Enniscrone pier, what method were they using daroxtar. Drift net?? :D
