He's breathing a sigh of relief that Mr Cowen decided not to dissolve the Dáil last night. He wont be doing anything more than lip service to opposition until that budget gets passed.

I'd imagine Eamon Gilmore is playing a very hasty game of eny, meeny, miny, moe trying to get candidates together and getting their photos taken and leaflets made up.

Their will be nothing but quietness from Lab / FG from here until after the budget.

Cowen looks like a worn out man.

Kenny was impressive. Reasonable, calm, composed. A reasonable offer to intensively process the budget early, rejected by Cowen predictably.

Did they describe Cowen's performance as 'smashing', or something to that effect?

Sorry, but I can't bare to watch their news coverage anymore.

I don't think the hard questions were asked by FG and Labour today.
It's hard to understand the democratic society we live in today. The government elected by the people are screwing those people, the tax payers and only seem interested in protecting the bondholders.
In Portugal their people are protesting over cuts and the opposition over there are sitting back and letting their budget pass.
There deos not seem to be the political will among the population of Western Europe to get a group of people running the respective countries for the people.
On TV3 last night, two experts believe the country are being bossed around in the negotiations with the IMF. If it's like a game of chess, Ireland are behind and Europe are 5 moves ahead. They belive the best thing the country could do is default on the banks which is not a sovereign default. This turns things around then and the onus is on Europe to give the money to protect the banks. Alas I don't think the political will is there amongst the current government, it's questionable over the opposition as well but I guess they did not lead the country into this mess.
