    hi,

i've blonde highlights through my hair trying to get my hair a cool blonde, i'd like to put a semi or permanent dye all over to make it brighter (and to save money!).
what will this turn out like?
will i ruin my hair or do people do this all the time? (ive never had my hair blonde before so a bit clueless)
any recommendations on the brand and colour? looking for a nice, cool blonde

Well, I don't know about all highlights, but I dye over mine when the roots come in, and I'm a pretty light blonde. I can't recommend clairol's "perfect 10" more.

I'm a big fan of their lightest ash blonde shade. Looks professional and have had hairdressers compliment it! Shade pallete here

I always dye over my highlights with another blonde colour - the highlights still show through so it makes the colour really nice. Hair has got to the stage where the highlights have grown out a good bit so not really sure what do do as the blonde colour I put in isnt doing anything to my roots now!

I had beautiful blonde highlighted hair last year, and decided to give all over blonde a go. Ended up being very dry and straw like, and always had a slightly yellowish tinge to it (done by a professional, and a pretty good one at that). I ended up having to go dark, and am very, very slowly (and expensively) going to build up my blonde highlights again. I wouldn't advise dyeing over it, but if you're anything like me, you won't heed warning as you'll have to get it out of your system and do it. ;) Hope it works out for you either way,

I think putting a lighter colour over highlights is fine, it's only when you put a darker over them that it can go wrong (as I found out when I decided to put an all-over dark brunette on top of my blonde highlights... not good!). Hope it turns out well :)
