    Hi All,

Just putting this out there to see a response. Do you think the golden pages is now an effective way of advertising in this day and age. I have a garden centre and landscaping business and I am considering not listing this year. Any views?

We had a 1/4 page add last year. Add was wrong but hey!

We have a database of how enquiries come through here and the throughput by Golden Pages is almost nil.

We just have a 2 line add now. Worth a presence but it is a dying form of getting your name out there. Everyone googles now.

I'm constantly amazed how many companies still use it with a 3k+ add yet don't have a website!

    Hi Niall,

I don't think it is worth the expense to be honest. People still use it, my cousin owns a windows & doors business that puts a regular add in, but I don't think its cost effective.

New media is all the rage, get a website if you haven't done it already, & either pay a professional to do your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) or learn about it yourself. Cavan County enterprise board do a reasonably good beginners course for web-marketing for €50 and I am sure you can do other more advanced classes or just learn about it through blogs & wikipedia. You shouldn't need much SEO I don't expect since you're only targeting a local market. I think all that would be more cost effective than the Golden pages, although saying that, I don't know if its an older demographic you're targeting.

    Goodluck man;)

We used to have an advert in Golden Pages. Haven't bothered for a few years now.
I could not recommend Golden Pages anymore. Spend the money on your website. Even my Mam now uses google to find stuff!
Both at home & in work I see the GP books still in their wrappers and being thrown out unopened.
