Its the Walker WP11DTB so seemingly it is.

Same box is €99.95 in Powercity.

Yes the WP11DTB is Saorview compatible.

Powercity. They even do online, free nationwide delivery.

Carbery Trading Solutions (on the eBay link) are still selling the Sagem and Triax TR110 (DTT only , not Combo) as Irish DTT compatible and they are not, and never will be. http://www.saortv.info/terrestrial-saorview/saorview-reception/

The Triax box must have the weirdest build ever, the decoding is MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 HP. However there is no HD video output only SD. Another to stay away from as a result

Which is the Triax box with MPEG4 and no HDMI?

(Can you edit your quote then?)

This then proves the earlier point about potential for confusion!

Carbery is selling the DTT only Triax TR110. It's got no HDMI. Do not buy for Irish DTT.

The Triax TR110 which is targeted at the Irish market doesn't do MPEG-4 HD only SD so no HDMI.

The Triax combi has an HDMI connector.

Would this box support any future RTE HD channels?

Don't buy "Triax TR110" DTT only, Sagem Picnic, Philex Skyline DTT, or Neotion CAMs.

Only Saorview or UK "Freeview HD" set-box.

    So something like this;

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Humax-HD-Fox-T2-Freeview-HD-Box-Digital-Set-Top-Box-/270663940941?pt=UK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL&hash=item3f04d3fb4d

Will work for Saorview and RTE HD (when launched), in conjunction with an existing UHF outdoor aerial ?

    Yes Declan.

Saorview and RTE HD are not separate. Saorview *IS* an HD DTT spec, unlike "Freeview" the spec is 100% compatible with HD from the begining.

So anything that is Saorview compatible will show HD. Anything that can't do RTE HD, isn't actually Saorview Compatible.

Anyone got some good recommendations for boxes?

Some of the free to air / freeview boxes I've come across have absolutely shocking UI. Can't beat the old Sky interface (pre-HD) which was great.

Thanks for all the help folks.

Quick question: would the Walker stb also pick up Freeview HD with a suitable aerial??

Doubt it, it would only be T1, not T2.

    no, it won't

If it's only DVB-T, it can't even "see" a DVB-T2 signal. Won't even list it.

Most people are too far from a Freeview HD Transmitter (IOM or Wales, none in NI till 2012), better to get Freesat HD.

There seems to be two versions of Walker box. WP10 AND WP11.
The WP11 from looking at the picture of it looks to me like a version of the Vestel T8300 which is sold under many brands as a Freeview HD box in the Uk.
So it may possibly be a Freeview hd spec box. But i am just thinking aloud here, dont take my word for it.

All components are made by Vestel. It is a DVB680 chassis (also used on the Bush Freeview HD box) BUT with the tuner changed to DVB-T (the tuner module is from a T4800). It also has a USB port added.

It WILL NOT work for Freeview HD, so dont buy one if your goal is to receive Freeview HD. Its gunthered to the Irish Spec and works fine for Irish DTT and is certified as such.

No, you need a DVB-T2 tuner for that.

Are all Freeview HD tuners fully compatible with saorview. If I purchase a tv with built-in freeview HD and freesat HD tuners, will I get all Irish DTT channels, Freesat channels, both 7-day EPGs, digital MHEG5 teletext and interactice services?

What are the prospects of a Freesat/saorview combo stb coming on the market?

Short answer is be careful, the majority of Freeview HD STBs are Vestel T8300 clones or Chinese jobbies of unknown provenance and there seeimgly is a problem with some of them, see

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056124181

I fear the same issues could arise in Vestel Freeview HD tellys or Chinese ones with the same firmware , however there are plenty of Freeview HD tellys that will work.
    Short answer would be no.
    +1
