I can't believe things have gotten so bad in America (and worldwide) at the moment, that gay teenagers have to pleaded with not to kill themselves. It's a ****ing disgrace

What a lovely video. Not only are Pixar great at making movies, but their staff seem such a lovely bunch of people, which really shows with the effort they put into their films. This video really made me smile. Good on you Pixar!

The true scandal is the silence of governments and churches worldwide. It's as if they really don't care, or would prefer we went away by whatever means possible.

Any chance Brain Coewn or the current cabinet would support a similar effort here? I aint holding my breath

    Hi guys,

I've just come across these videos recently. Am doing a radio programme on Gay Rights in Schools. If anyone might be interested in participating have a look here in the media section:

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056099945

Anyway, scanning trough these videos, it's a campaign that's gone worldwide, I've seen videos from USA, UK and even Afghanistan and some of the Scandinavian countries.

Question: has anyone from Ireland posted videos? Has anyone in the public eye taken part? I searched for David Norris whom I thought the best bet but haven't seen it.

    Anyone know?

After looking at the Pixar video, something else struck me:

It's a sorry state of affairs that videos like these need to be made but as someone who lost a friend due to homophobic bullying I'm happy to see that videos like these are being made.

    Wow I phrased that terribly...

As someone of the political mindset and of Brian Cowen's colours:
    a) He is discredited
    b) Others would accuse him of not having his mind on the financial crisis, God knows why, we have a Minister for Finance ffs
    c) A political football would be created of it and I don't think that's constructive.

On a tangent, I wonder if there might be a similar global series of It Gets Better videos referring to our country's economic meltdown.
Other countries which have had very testing times and gone through something similar telling of their experiences but reminding us that they survived, they got though it and have emerged better and stronger.

I'd have to respetfully disagree with you there. Why would any party object to efforts to help young people affected by homophobic bullying? The governement does not do enough to recognise the stigma thats going on in schools.

The same government that has skirted around actually dealing with alternate sexualities in secondary schools at all? The same government that allowed section 37? The same government that spent the last 13 years fighting with Lydia Foy?

The reason, personally, I think parties don't deal with this issue is their is 0 benefit for them. Gay youth don't have a vote, the entire gay community probably don't make up enough people to make it worth fighting for and the older generation who love voting do not like us. Parties don't make decisions on whats right, they make decisions on what gets seats.

Im in no way supporting the current governments actions in the past. How they have dealt with LGBT issues to date is disgraceful. However, we did manage to pass the Equality Act (even if its nothing more then a code of conduct), and a Civil Partnership bill, despite Ireland still being a fairly conservative place. Its not full equality but we ARE getting there, albeit in small steps! :)
