    just wondering can a push button (door release) button be used on a system to release a motorized lock

    Yes. Depending on the power of the lock a relay may be required.

    So is the lock 24 volt AC powered independently from the intercom?
    What is the intercom door release switching?

    the intercom releases the door lock as does a swipe card system outside the door
    the intercom has 24 volts across the terminals
    the lock is (i`m told 12 volt)
