Problem with Income Levy calculations in Thesaurus Payroll software

I've been advised that there is an error in the calculation of the Income Levy on the Thesaurus Payroll software. It has affected one of our employees and is a relatively small amount but there may be other cases out there so I thought I'd bring it to people's attention.

According to the Revenue Commissioners employers must calculate Income Levy on a week-one/month-one basis, irrespective of cumulative earnings for the year to date. The situation we had was an employee who had been full time with us and whose cumulative earnings had exceeded €15,028 who then moved to part time work. Even though his monthly wages were below the Income Levy threshold for the month Thesaurus was still applying the 2% levy.

Our accountant contacted Thesaurus and was told that these were the instructions they had received from Revenue but they've yet to produce a copy of those instructions. Our accountant also contacted the Revenue employer help desk who confirmed in writing that employers should not look at cumulative earnings in calculating the Income Levy and that if any underpayment arose that it was up to the Revenue and not the employer to collect it.

We haven't tried it out but apparently this error on Thesaurus will also effect those whose earnings have gone over the €75K threshold who will be hit with the 4% levy irrespective of the amount they earn for the week/month.

Our accountant has asked Thesaurus to provide a patch or upgrade but as it's so close to the end of the year they probably won't do much about it but I'll post up here if there's any update.
