Open University Degree in Education

    • Hi there, just wondering if anyone who has done an open university degree has managed to succeed in becoming a primary school teacher? what road did you go down course-wise and were schools in Ireland willing to employ you or did you have to go to the UK for a teaching position? I would seriously love to do a degree here but I feel it would be a waste of time to do one in education if the qualification was not recognised in Ireland. It is not an option for me to go back to college full-time.
    • Many thanks,

Unfortunately a BA in Education with the Open University will not qualify you to teach in Ireland. However once you get your honours BA with the Open University (level 8) in any subject (and have an honours Irish in your Leaving Cert) you can apply to one of the teaching colleges (Hibernia, St. Pat's, etc).

Would there be a lot of overlap between the two?

Not sure what you mean. Overlap between what exactly(the OU degree and the primary school teaching degree)?
