UFH and Screed Depth

    Have a few questions which I would like some help with;

    1. I am putting in UFH upstairs and downstairs and was wondering how much insulation and screed I should be using.

    For the ground floor we have spec'd 150mm of insulation (under the UFH pipes) and then and 75mm of screed. Does this sound ok?

    For the 1st floor we have spec'd 25mm of insulation (under the UFH pipes) and then and again 75mm of screed. Should we change the screed to 50mm here or use easy screed to get a better response times in the bedrooms etc? Also is 25 mm of insulation sufficient upstairs? The 1st floor will be pre-cast suspended concrete

    Maybe I am wrong about this, but I would assume that the person who is supplying the underfloor heating system to you should be able to give you recommendations for each type of floor build up.

    But I will say this ... underfloor heating is not about response times ... I have been living with it now for 4 years and it is great.

    I am not sure of the system you are using, but with our we have thermostats in each room. The stats are set to 18deg between 0700 and 2300 and 21deg between 2300 and 0700. This keeps the pumping running mainly on night time rate electricity (in the very cold weather we might have some evening time running in some rooms). Our rooms are more or less at the same temperature (20deg) 24 hours a day / 365 days a year, so the need for response times doesnt really exist.

    I have done exactly this, except 100mm screed downstairs. To heat a 340sq m house (heating on 3 weeks so far) is costing me £24 a week. I'm well please.

    But alot depends on insulation in other areas
